The Rolling Stones : Live in Missoula

Last night I witnessed the most ridiculous, awesome, and unbelievable shows that I have ever seen. The Rolling Stones performed in the Grizzly Stadium in Missoula, MT. The opening band was the Black Rebel Motorcycle club. This three member group played simple, mellow, good music. It told nothing of what was to come.

The Rolling Stones began their set with a short animated film on the 50 foot screen, before they broke into “Jumping Jack Flash,” my favorite of their songs. They sounded very good. Mick Jagger is the most engergetic 63 year old man I have ever seen. They played nearly all their chart topping hits, a few old rarities and a few new tunes. They did show their ability to jam on extended versions of “Midnight Gambler,” and “Sympathy for the Devil.” The double encore, “You can’t always get what you want,” and “Can’t get no satisfaction,” was incredible. The lights and pyro-technics were really over the top and made the show seem surreal. At one point, the stage was moved all they way a cross the football field on a big conveyor belt, while a giant inflatable tongue logo was put forth. The whole show was way overdone, but it was fun to watch. The Stones know how to go out with a bang.
