What is the definition of a person’s spirit? I’ll start by saying that if it’s not Dionysian, it’s not someone’s spirit.
I’d consider Spirit as Soul - an image of the Divine Mind created to mold matter into the likeness of itself. People seem to use Spirit as a term for different ideas, but I certainly think the Christian idea of the ‘Holy Spirit’ is the same as my idea of Soul.
The spirit or the soul is a metaphorical way of saying the person’s heritage or the sum of his/her Becoming.
The mind in a non-physical energy form.
To me I always thought spirit and soul were two different things about us. In fact that is where I always saw duality. Not body and mind.
Soul is the base of us, the core if you will, Spirit is that which drives us, our emotions our needs and desires.
Consciousness.
While I personally believe that the mind is a part of the body(which seems kinda obvious to me, but what the hey), that they are not separate. The statement ‘‘mind of body’’ like ‘‘foot of body’’ for me applies not ‘‘body and mind’’ but, in the christian sense I agree with felix, if you ask a priest and ignore the mumbo-jumbo, then the basic scientific idea behind the soul, as believed by christians, is consciousness. It is separated from the body at death, leading me to believe that it does encompass all that might be called the ‘‘mind’’, another example that can lead me to this conclusion is the descriptions of heaven(which, fortunately, includes islam, it makes the arguement more rounded)which at it’s fundamental concept and mode of experience, indicate that the consciousness and mind, now separated from the body, are the more easily relatable(to carnal existance) basics in heaven.
Matter is another form of energy and energy is the flux.
by my understanding,
energy is the flux in matter, and thusly is just matter anyway…or is that what you already said?
Either way, i think murex is wrong.
I knew someone would say that. Now I have to write an ellaborate explanation to clairify…::sigh::
What I mean: Non-Physical as in not bound to the physical like our bodies are bound to the physical. The soul is not in the physical world like other matter is. I believe it has a coplannar existance, and it is in energy (matter in flux) form.
Do I need to write more?
