Could someone clarify what Nietzsche said about these two terms in relation to each other, what books they can be found in, and what the original German terms for each were?
Thank you
Read the whole of The Gay Science and Thus Spoke Zarathustra. The Last Man is referred to in Zarathustra’s prologue and the Superman is referred to all over Nietzsche’s central works (chronologically speaking). But those two books especially will give you all you need to know.
If you are really lazy, or your homework is due in tomorrow, I recommend the following site:
publicappeal.org/library/nie … select.htm
I recommend “The Birth of Greek Tragedy out of the Spirit of Music” and Geneology of Morals."The rest was either incomplete or something of Nietzche flexing his ego in a rather delicate prose.
The original German terms are:
the Superman= der Ãœbermensch
the last man= der letzte Mensch
The Morning Star, if you listen to the above advise then you might as well go ask the kids how Clark Kant was befallen upon earth.
The Birth Of Tragedy tells you nothing about the birth of ubermensch so forget it for the time being. If you have to then it must be read with its latest preface entitled as An Attempt Towards Self-Criticism written and added by Nietzsche later.
The Genealogy was never preferable to its predeecessor Beyond Good And Evil. The latter is considered a grand summary of Nietzschean philosophy, while the Genealogy was merely three essays addressing one topic each.
CartesianFart, you stink like Berkely and ten times worse than Hume. Nietzsche flexed his ego in Ecce Homo and nowhere else and you can consider his prose a blissful aid for your passing-wind understanding.
CartesianFart, if you consider yourself a Nietzschean in anyway, then it is disgrace and stupidity committed on your part, in regarding the only two books that was not written in aphorismistic style as most worthy of reading. Aphorism is the apotheosis of the Nietzschean expression, it is a linguile miracle, an artistic breakthrough and the height of the German language in the 19th century. Besides, the two books you recommanded would offer nothing for The Morning Stat regarding the superman and the antithesis.
However, if you do consider yourself a Nietzschean, then forgive my hash words, as I did not betray Zarathustra’s teaching “spare nobody”, love me as a brother and change your pseudonyme. Not to NietzscheanFart, but to NietzscheanArt or something along the same line.
Well,i dont know why you assume that i am a Nietzschean.Go ahead and be dazzled by the ideal of his aphoristic writings.I will not.
The only thing i find of Nietzsche interesting is his view on history as cyclical.Especially the subject of morality.
ps.Uniqor:
Are you not,as a Nietzchean ,generalizing His name?I find that an irony that Nietzsche writen against any generalizing terminology of anything that ruduced human beings to a falsifying “common nature.”
The only thing i find of Nietzsche interesting is his view on history as cyclical.
This idea that only concerns you, is in fact not strictly Nietzschean at all, Hegel’s “Kreislauf” is the original, insofar as certain Greeks are not mentioned. So you might want to look into that, too. There is no need to complain if Hegel proves to be too tough then, you can always come back to the powerful expressive lucidity of Nietzsche.
Aphoristic writting might fail to dazzle you due to literatural limitation on a personal level. Dazzled or not, the failure in reading aphoristic writting effectively, means the failure in understaning Nietzschean philosophy adequately. You can find that out for yourself, and thank me later. As I said, do not forget to change your pseudonyme on the day you convert.
