By Art do you mean paintings or any creative artist product?
I think art often shows what it behind the surface (also) and that is interesting art. Some art does not do this.
Though anyone making beauty, which is not trite, I say good for you. Then we have something beautiful that is real.
Art is supposed to encapsulate something true in such a way as to evoke a response in he who appreciates it that wouldn’t be evoked by anything else. Like dan, we look at the world and it’s all haywire, but then we see certain principles that can be seen to govern things, and we can describe those in a lot of different ways and we can call them the truth, but then at the end of that lecture, there’s a part of the truth missing, and part of the audience is left unsatisfied, or part of each member of the audience is left unsatisfied. Then, they take a walk through a museum and see things in front of their eyes that are aesthetically pleasing and the sensation of having grasped the truth in at least some fractional way can complete the understanding that people are looking for. Like science told us everything it knew, and we felt all kinds of ways about it, but there was a way left to feel for which we had a void until we encountered art in such a way as to feel it’s effect on us.
I was trying to reject almost all forms of art.
But I was probably wrong in doing so.
I felt a need to suppress my hedonism, I wanted something more meaningful.
I almost said for my first response that perhaps art is not what you need now. What you are rejecting in art is what does not match your needs at this time, which, if true, is not wrong, but need not be extended to all time or everyone.
Dan : You think truth and art have gotten away from each other ? that the beauty which once was centered has been lost in some manner, sort of risen to the periphery, there to loose its essence ? Maybe we don't get away from the truth, only from its interpretation.
It is all in the velocity of things, which have gotten out of hand. Art can still slow things down, imitating its varied representations, it has become unfocused, unearthed of its depth, made root-less, and violently exposed.
I think it has to do with human limitations and imperfections.
Some people hate things which are ugly but not evil,
or they love things that are beautiful on the surface but evil within.
I believe we start out unconscious, and completely ignorant.
We can grow in some ways but it’s limited.
I come from a family with problems.
Crazy stuff, even.
Maybe I’m too judgemental.
