This Christmas Eve
In the stillness
and the silence
of this most distinctive night,
comes to us
in all Thine essence,
simple truth, in Love’s pure light.
From Gabriel the call again,
unto this deafened place,
upon the angel’s godly face
a message,
borne of wondrous grace.
But will the world stop and hear –
in the stillness of that moment, pause?
And wonder
at the mystery,
and marvel
at its holy cause?
For if in stillness man should rest,
She’ll bring Him forth in quiet best,
and once again, as once before,
o’ come let us again adore.
Into the heart of man is born –
a manger heart, for lack of room –
what’s been before us all along
a stranger part of us, of whom,
the angels sing:
an inner king.
And bells will ring,
and children sing.
Wise men
once again will kneel,
shepherds
once again will quake,
once again the Star will shine,
and by Thy will, the soul will wake.
For now we find in Heaven near,
the simple Truth in Love’s pure light,
in mystery and quiet clear,
upon this most distinctive night.
