Thesis: The philosophical statement above is perfect within itself and expresses so much in very few words.

I'm only adding this thesis because many people here think you need a lot of words in order for a thing to be philosophy.

As always, if you think this thread is perfect within itself, do not post, just enjoy.

.

For a thing to be philosophy, you need to be explicit about why you think what you happen to think. IOW, you need to give reasons for why you think what you happen to think. Watch…

 1. Historically, it’s been that way since at least Socrates, walking around the marketplace engaging with others in the elenctic method.

 2. Giving reasons is how we guage whether our answers to philosphical questions are improving, or whether they are flawed, and in what way, etc.

 3. Philosophy translates as “love of wisdom” …not “love of opinions” or “love of bullshit”. If something is ‘wise’/true/good, there’ll be a reason why it is. Other kinds of expression we might classify as art, or in your case, just bullshitting art as well.

 4. Why would you listen to and engage with someone if you didn’t think there was any reason to listen to and engage with that someone? If you want people to read your stuff, then give them a reason to. (Or else visit www.iloveart.com)

So, ultimately, posting a picture is nice… but pictures are descriptive, not justificatory. A picture will help describe what you think/feel… but it won’t tell anyone why you think/feel that way, or why others should.

The preceding announcement has been brought to you by a can of whoop-ass.
(Only_Humean, you may now move this thread to the rant house, or the Academy… either one, really).

It’s funny to me that you think Bill’s argument is sincere. But then maybe it’s funny that I think that you think that Bill’s argument is sincere.

I think it’s funny you thought Bill made an argument.

What about the part where their reasons have to agree with yours?

Doesen't that beg the question of what reason's may be behind other reasons, in the sense of an absolute reason necessitating a paradimn?? Otherwise there will be an infinite number of reasons, regressing into a total uncertainty?

I think it’s funny that you argued against a non-argument. And put some energy into it!

I think it’s funny you’re surprised that someone would make their own argument, for a thesis.

.

…That’s funny.

.

No. Reasoning isn’t infinity regressive.
… well, unless you can’t do it right (like anything else).

Actually;
In the end, all we have is this moment and the imperfect love of those around us.

...is quite Socratic. Perhaps if you have the pleasure of re-reading Socrates you will pick-up the fact that Socrates believe all of the outer images around us are just illusions and imperfect representations of concepts that are more real and are inside of us.

Socrates was noted for walking by himself...in silence, occasionally conversing only with Gods.

.

You might have a whole bunch of ideas that are the same or similar as ideas that Socrates had…
But if all Socrates had were those random thoughts—scattered neat little tidbit conclusions—then he’d be no different than any bag lady pushing a cart in the park and talking to nobody in particular. Or, you. (Or anyone).

Socrates is who he is because he went some way to justifying why he thought what he thought. For example:
The idea that sense impressions aren’t how things really are, or are illusory somehow, etc… that’s a pre-Socratic idea. It was around long before Socrates. That Socrates/Plato gave the idea a new name and a new cast as “the Forms”… means nothing, to anyone. It’s superficial.
It’s only the moment that Plato/Socrates starts to justify why you should care about his idea—that is, why you should think it’s true—that Socrates starts to matter to anyone. Once he starts building off of reasons to do with geometrical objects, and abstract concepts, and a story about a cave… then people take notice. And it’s only on the strength of those reasons that anyone has ever cared about Socrates as a philosopher.

No he wasn’t. He was noted for his philosophical method, which is just the process of asking people why they think what they do, and then figuring out whether the person’s answers are internally consistent. —Because if they’re not, the person doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

There was something paradoxical in the(pre socratic) tragedy, the birth of which, was taken up later on.

Moved to MB, for obvious reasons.

“If you think this is perfect then don’t respond” is attention-seeking trolling. This isn’t Facebook, and click-fishing is not philosophy. Given that I’ve warned you for exactly the same thing, very recently, consistency demands I do the same again.

…and the imperfect love of those around us.

I thank everyone who has participated and observed this thread, your best attempt at love in the moment you were given.

.

I had a good exercise today and feel healthy and closely attached to life.

In this moment, I feel deep affection for humanity and all the diversity within. I want to freeze this moment for future reference as a boost and insight into a wider perspective that I easily lose sight of.

If this state perpetuated itself, I would flow through my life with respect.

Bill, I don’t think you show respect to all others on this site. I say this with no ill intent. You and your messages will easily be lost in noise, if you let them be undermined by other acts.

Best wishes

.

For the past couple of years I too have found a gateway into a deeper self within through intense physical exercise.

We cannot freeze that wider perspective no matter how hard we try.

Go with it.
Enjoy the flow.

Understand that we are dragged upon a continually changing topography of emotions, thoughts, and physical health.

We can only continue to work hard to perpetuate this state itself.

In the end, all we have is this moment and the imperfect love of those around us.

Me and my messages will easily be lost in noise, as they are undermined by other acts.

Wishes that we see clearly.
