- “This man is pregnant.”
- “This woman who looks like a man is pregnant.”
Watch the video if you are unfamiliar with this story. What is the right thing to say?
Absolutley revolting.
Which part?
The fact that she had a sex change and is now a “he”?
The fact that the person who had a sex change is pregnant?
Or the fact that the person who is pregnant looks like a man?
Really and truly the pregnancy itself is completely normal. Other than the person’s physical appearance, its completely normal (the pregnancy that is). Well… existence of a fetus is normal. How the fetus was conceived is a different story (i guess it would have to be artificial insemination).
All of it.
It is not revolting. I think it breaks a barrier that humanity need to have broken. The baby will be loved by two loving parents. Both the mother and the father are happy with it. I think that allowing the world to know took courage and thoughtfulness. It is another broken gender barrier and I applaud it. It can only help in the long run.
Whatever. That kid will never have a normal life. The parents are out for attention and we’re giving it to them.
I can’t believe that people think it’s ok to warp a child in some sort of experimental family just to ensure the liberty of the parents who choose to act in ways that are widely considered unacceptable.
The kid is the victim, not the rights of some mentally ill whack job who doesn’t even know what he’s supposed to be in the world.
You’ve made an important distinction here. “Widely considered”
Are you personally against this story because it is widely considered unacceptable?
Or would you be against it regardless? If so why?
Granted I agree that there might be a sense of attention seeking (albeit probably minute), and the kid will have to face social adversity due to how bizarre the circumstances are. If society did not deem it unacceptable then there would be no problem.
Which is worse?
A) A child reared in this sort of family (the “pregnant father”)? OR,
B) the fact that society deems it unacceptable?
I say its B. Why should it be ok for this to be deemed unacceptable? Its purely subjective. Rights should be protected from subjectivism. If society did not deem it unacceptable then there would be no problem.
I think the controversy over its acceptability is bullshit, because other than the operation to “become a man”, the female parts necessary to conceive and carry a child to term are still present, so what the hell’s the issue with acceptability? Should there be a line in the fine print of your bill after your sex change operation that says “Since you are now no longer a woman, you are not allowed to get pregnant”?
I think the controversy really is about what pronoun to use in reference to the person who is pregnant. I know that transsexuals are touchy about that subject. Hence the issue. I’m not making any absolutes here, I’m only pointing out a discrepancy with regards to language.
I"ll think about it and get back to you. I’m still disgusted, and I still think that the kid’s gonna suffer no matter who’s fault it is, or who’s rights are being violated or enforced. It’s just a tragic situation.
I don’t see what the big deal is. This isn’t a pregnant man, this is a pregnant woman.
“Miracle of birth occurs for 43 billionth time”
Oprah needs to off herself.
I agree with Eclipse!
Why would such a pretty female change sex to an unattractive male? and who is still obviously having straight sex!
YOU FAIL!
Artificial insemination ftw!
Why is it so bad to not have a normal life? I would think not being normal can be a good thing.
All families are experimental, Two people trying to live together in a loving harmonious way is a really big life changing experiment.
The child is not a victim of its parents. It would be a victim, if it allows people’s ignorance, bigotry, hate and fear to rule its life. then it would only have itself to blame for that and no one else. People widely accepted that two people from two different skin colors or religions were horrible at one time. Beastiality, blasphemous, unholy, disgusting, shameful etc etc… these words were used for such relationships they still are to some extent and to a huge extent homosexual relationships. Why? Because its not what you would do? what a load of crap. Consenting adults who love each other, have the right to be a family. to deny loveand family is really a sign of insecurity, ego and fear. Smears, How would you feel if someone dictated whom you should love and wether you could have a family? Turn your bigotry toward yourself and see how it feels.
It’s still a pregnant female / I have failed nothing - why the need for the sex change? I don’t understand that…
I’m only a bigot toward people who use kids as a means to their own ends without adhereing to the conventions which we know provide stable and suitable environments for those kids.

…and that person has not defied her biological make-up: due to the fact that SHE wanted/is bearing a child!
People never fail to amaze me… with their stupidity! We are born: we then cope with the package we are in - what is so hard to comprehend about that! We all have to deal with the lives/bodies we are dealt, or we have failed.

i don’t think their out for attention… the media is out to get your attention and i’m sure if he wasn’t on opera he’d be in the tabloids.
though my personal tastes cause me to shutter in disgust at the thought of a man giving birth to a baby… that’s just what it is…
a man giving birth to a very unfortunate baby…
I’m only a bigot toward people who use kids as a means to their own ends without adhereing to the conventions which we know provide stable and suitable environments for those kids.
Love provides stabilityand suitability. As long as they are good parents why should anyone care? they shouldn’t… Someone always has to be the first to cross conventional barriers. Was it wrong when the first interracial couples here in the US became married? i support this couple. The mother can’t carry chidren but the father can. I say that is fantastic, they get to build a family with their blood. what about adoption Smears? If they adopted would it be different?
So, “the father” is pregnant, but “he” isn’t?
So, “the father” is pregnant, but “he” isn’t?
No. No he is not. The mother is pregnant.
The person who is pregnant is the father because that is the way that family is designating it. Only thing he retains of being a female is the reproductive organs and it is not just the reproductive organs that designate male female. A hermaphodite is possibly what this person closely resembles. So in that, this person actually gets a choice unlike the rest of us.
