It sounds like an infomercial.
But, what is your points?
Not an infommercial, Kris. Have we given a label yet to computer pop-up, or right side ads? I think this may be what Mowk is referencing. “Get rid of 5 lbs of belly fat by following this one, simple rule.” “This is what botched cosmetic surgery did to this former star.” And so forth and so on.
People believe what they read–especially if they read it on their computer. A computer is a machine. Machines don’t lie. People forget that humans direct those machines to say the things the machines say.
The CIA and its data gathering is nothing compared to the advertisers and their use of the computer!
People believe what they read because they want to believe it, generally. People want to believe that they can lose weight without exercising or changing their diet, or that they can read a webpage and learn how to make a million dollars overnight, or whatever. The problem is not the advertisers, who are, in the end, just tapping into the desires of their audience. The problem is, at the root, the desires of their audience, i.e. success without actual effort. That, and the unwillingness or inability of such people to apply that greatest oxymoron of all, common sense.
=D> Of course!
