thomas jefferson quote

what the hell was the quote he said about needing a revolution every couple years so that the past generations arent governing the presnet ones?

I know what you’re talking about. I’m not going to look for it, but am waiting for somebody to find it, so I may save it, or probably just memorize it.

i just read it like a month ago. i dont remember where. i cant find it when i search for it on the internet. i find like the shortened version of it but i want like the larger part of the speech he was making.

What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance?-Thomas Jefferson

Every generation needs a new revolution.
Thomas Jefferson

Tyler Durden said it better.

“All men are created equal -except for my slaves of course, and women…” -jefferson

at least he saw beyond the prejudices of the time. Including his own…

The Tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of patriots

Is that the quote you mean? It’s slightly paraphrased, can’t remember it quite properly

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." -- Tommy Jefferson

There we are, that’s it.

I like that. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. A revolution for every generation would not be a bad idea. There are factors to be considered which may render the idea moot, but the message is clear. Every generation must rewrite the law to suit their own times, or else they become imprisoned to the law of past.

thats it i think but there was more to it afterwards.

i just read an article on a guy named john woolman a couple days ago. he lived up until like right before the revolution and he actually tried convincing slave owners to free slaves. he was way beyond his time its quite impressive.

Later in his life he lightened up on that view seeing the success of the Constitution.

Jefferson did have a hope and believed that slaves would be freed in future generations, though he said nature has declared that the peoples could never live together, which seems to be very much true still to this very day.

Even when people have the freedom to be together they still float mostly with others like them and conflict ensues.
