I was flipping thru the net when i came across an ex friend’s my space ad. She is one of the most boring people on the planet with the biggest stick up her butt, you just wanna slap her and yet her my space page is colorful, full of pics and people and long blog entries…so am I officially a LOSER or is there no real indication of a person’s life based on their my space? or perhaps the bigger the my space the bigger the loser???
You raise some very interesting issues. cough
I only exist on myspace for the sake of reading a couple of things every now and then.
Isn’t it owned by NewsCorp?
I actualy use it to trace down everyone in my college, those emos are suckers for myspace.
I use myspace very regularly - i write for a student magazine and a national music promotion website called Glasswerk.
Myspace is revolutionary to a great extent…the loca music in Glasgow is blossoming…and myspace allows everyone to network very very efficiently…musicians, promoters, fans, listeners, are all on and even keel to contact communicate and chat.
Myspace is - in a very real sense -made communication very ‘egalitarian’…so has the internet inself…but myspace and FORUMS and a hole host of other things have served to make communication very lucid, liberal…In terms of Glasgow myspace and the webitself have helped to solidify and enlargen a community of like minded people, without having to be in each others pockets…
Sure myspace is in many senses a hyperactive, glorified chatroom, but for networking, communication and enhancing regional and global culture it has great merits. I know several people who know have paid jobs from sifting through myspace…
It’s not all junk if not your a net junkie surfing for cheap fixes. It has quality too.
In my part of the world the ads on myspace have gotten two girls killed. They provided too much info and attracted the wrong dude.
Would you substantiate this report with some links?
yah i have a space on msn. but i’ve noticed if i didnt advertise it no one would ever find it.i’ve basically abandoned my space, becuase like adds,i’d only make i grow if it got attention-not that i’d make a cent of coarse.
about Philosophy girl-maybe your Xfriend had some talent she hid from you? maybe she put on a set personality when around you and had some qualitys you missed? people are nutorious for sherades.
if you read this,your all 0.02$ richer…
If MySpace is good enough for Jacques Derrida then it’s good enough for me.
well that thing about the people getting killed… really, you gotta not be stupid on the internet in the first place. you can’t get a myspace and go “i’m a naive 17 yr old blonde hot girl that wants a relationship… i live at…” blah blah blah. that’s how you get killed, right there.
as for the original question… my take is, it’s not wrong to have an elaborate myspace… but i don’t get the trend of having 47839274803705732073027087283223703 friends in your list when you have only met 2 of them. my myspace has a total of 29 friends, and 5 or 6 are just bands i like. everyone else on my list is someone i am good friends with already.
oh and for people with myspace accounts:
DON’T post bulletins like “so… today i had a pretty good day… justin was mean to me again… blah blah… maybe i’ll cut my wrists for attention…” because NOBODY CARES.
and also, DON’T post bulletins like “iF yOu RePoSt ThIs In ThE nExT mInUtE yOu WiLl FiNd YoUr TrUe LoVe ToMoRrOw,” because i will hunt you down and take you out myself.
Xanderman,
“Would you substantiate this report with some links?”
Since you asked, I don’t think so.
someemofag,
I’ve been enjoying listening to blackmothsuperrainbow…
SOIATD, you’re in England right, how did you come across BMSR?
From a link in your myspace profile, hence my mentioning it…
Ah ha! BMSR, are pretty great! Really nice guys too. I have on tour bands crash at my house everyonce in a while, this one band stole a couple CDs one of which was an out of print BMSR. Later BMSR asked me for an add on myspace,(because they are on my fav bands list), I told them the story and they sent me a free copy of that CD! Way awesome thing to do.
- You may like this bootleg I recorded of another band named From Monument to Masses. I also have other bootlegs at http://music.uglatto.com/, I stopped bootlegging when my minidisc broke.
SOIATD, A while back you mentioned something about the ironic parody of Derridas death. What were you talking about?
fucker (aka someemofag) stole my avatar. I thought you made that for me.
I’ve no idea, what was the context in which I made the statement? I make a lot of statements…
That one.
Cool.
Why?
How far?
How hard?
Was it a good read?
That doesn’t help…
‘Life’?.. what is ‘life’? It is a combination of survival experiments as we see death all around us.
Yah well I dunno… What kind of stick was that again?
GAWWWD DAMNIT!
