I was happy to do so. Like yourself, I couldn’t pick up how they chose that specific date. I would like to think they had good intentions putting themselves out there with such a prediction. Is it being irresponsible for putting something like this forward? From the standpoint of the scripture I pointed out, I would have to say yes. It would be one thing to voice it as an opinion, but quite another to unequivocally state it as they did.
What this all boils down to me is one should try to be the best representative for God as possible. Granted some things I relate may seem out there for others who read my posts. That’s understabdale. If I make a mistake, I will happily recant to correct it. In no way while speaking of God, Christianity or others do I intentionally try to misrepresent in any fashion. For I know a reprimand will come back to set me straight from God in some fashion. However it comes, I will recognize it as such.
The prediction was made by Harold Camping.
It is his second prediction.
The first was September 6, 1994.
Firstly, Lity: Camping cites such passages as Amos 3:7 to counter folks that present your style of assessments against his predictions.
Take it or leave it as you will.
In short, regarding his prediction…it’s based on assumed timelines that are referred to as “calculations”.
It is the same as the type of timeline format used to determine how old the Earth is from Biblical counting.
Thanks TS for that link. It just further enforces to me that believers in God be watchful and vigilant in their faith. Worrying about when the end will come is foolish and unproductive. In my opinion it’s best to try to stay true to God as possible and be a good agent for Him.
If so, they assume that any who describe themselves as Christians on the internet cannot be as described, as no Christian would encourage such hazardous practice.
No Christians I know personally find the May 21st event to be a credible prediction. I don’t what is in the hearts of the people that established it. As I had stated earlier, I hope this was done with good intentions with no maliciousness in the background.
For myself, I just hope the cration of the universe was done with good intentions with no maliciousness in the background. Assuming it was intelligent, that is. For instance, would consider the notion of apocolypse at best an expression of the limits of its rationality, and a purely aesthetic endeavor. In which case, hmmm.
