As the link hopefully shows, it isn’t my joke. Time Trumpet is a new comedy show on the BBC, essentially a nostalgia show set in the 2030s, full of ‘old’ clips edited together and lots of talking heads reflecting on life at the turn of the millenium.

It’s produced by Armando Ianucci, who I think is the best comedy producer in Britain. He also made the best new comedy show of last year, The Thick of It, which is a mockumentary-sitcom set in the offices of the fictional Department for Social Affairs. It’s such a shame that you don’t get many BBC shows in the US because I think that you’d love both shows. There are plenty of Time Trumpet clips on youtube, and on the site I linked above, but I’ve only found a couple of the Thick of It.

Ianucci himself is a very clever chap - he was a visiting lecturer at Oxford earlier this year, talking about Broadcast Media and the supposed ‘death of the sitcom’.

I already knew this, having taken three years of spanish and two years of latin in high school.

By “mathematical” I’m saying that languages are usually formed in an algebraic sequence, i.e. 1 article + 1 noun + 1 verb = meaningful sentence. How else could you think of a description of a language? I’d think that numbers would make more sense here than circles.

And by inflected, do you mean an altering in tone of voice? Or some other definition?
