thought interrupted

So I have recently been experiencing a strange phenomenon - occasionally (but only) when falling asleep.

I’ll be in the middle of a fairly deep thought, and suddenly, the thought will be interrupted. Stopped. Seemingly against my will. Basically its as if I’m trying to process/understand what I’m thinking about, and it feels like my attention is taken away from the thought, but given to nothing. I immediately am annoyed about the fact that my thought was interrupted, and literally can’t remember the exact thoughts I was having right before it was interrupted. I’m annoyed because I get the sensation that it was a thought I desperately wanted to finish, and was on the way to finishing. I can sometimes remember where the thought started/some general idea about the thought. I’m usually still fairly alert when this occurs - I sometimes to choose to wake up completely when this happens, just to see if it helps.

This is different from what I’ve sometimes experienced in the past, when my tiredness just increasingly prevents me from thinking too critically about something while falling asleep.

Does anyone else experience anything similar?

Yea.

It is a neurological health issue (corrupted neurons and synapses by chemical imbalance, usually initiated by viruses).

Or stress or thinking too much for too long.
Your brain needs to shut down just as much as your body.

It is medical, but more sleep does help quite a bit. During sleep, the body attempts to compensate for corruptions and rid itself of them as much as possible. Thus sleep disorders are common. Only fairly well to do adults can actually get 8 hours of good sleep. No one else “deserves” such a luxury.

That really depends, do you honestly think all folks who are not well off stress or worry? Money is not the main problem it is just one of many human issues.

Thanks

Are you guys aware of any online resources that suggest this is medical? (or that I should be terribly concerned about it?)

Anyway I am not terribly worried about this, nor are my sleep habits THAT out of the normal (i usually get 6+ hours a night, and sleep in on the weekends), but I am curious about the specifics of what can cause this, and curious if others experience it

Investigate ADHD. It is related. But might also be associated with early Alzheimer’s. The medical world is filled mostly with symptom-terminology, not cause-terminology. So a single cause might have many widely varied named symptoms as “what it is”. Without question, it is neurological, but what it might be called or how they choose to (not really) treat it, is another story entirely.

Something as simple as a change in diet could possibly reduce or remove the symptom that you have mentioned, but the medical world will not tell you that. They will want to sell you pills.

Medical as in medicine or medical as in physiological?
