And these are in no order 1 is because it’s hot outside 2 the woman thinks that she looks good and she likes the way she looks for herself 3 she wants attractive men to look at her and gets offended when unattractive men look at her body.
4 she wants to look good/cool/in to her friends
5 she wants to fit in in society, not to be off, but with the specific aesthetics of the sub-group she and her friends are in: goths, latinas, urban white cool, whatever.
6 that’s what they do in the movies and series so it must be right
7 she likes the way it looks
8 she ambitiously is shooting for a high status, not just fitting in
9 she might be making a statement she is not ashamed of a body some think she should be ashamed of
10 to get her parents’ goat
11 to look like everyone else at the club or bar
12 to get past the bouncer gatekeepers at the club or bar
13 to market her value as sex value
14 to intimidate
15 to mimic her favorite actress, pop star, celebrity (with no skills)
Why are men such fuckwits?
You’re approaching it like a man. Men try to be attractive because they want to hook up with girls.
Girls sometimes simply enjoy feeling sexy. As just part of a sensual (in the scientific sense) well being. With way less testosterone, they don’t necessarily instantly make the link between desire and hunt.
Testosterone. It actually has a beneficial polarizing effect on intelligence, but it makes the connect complicated sometimes.
Women simply have no clue what it means to have drive always on.
What women can have to match it is an equal and reciprocating desire to be constantly hunted, when it’s a man that really attracts her on several levels.
‘Fascinating’ to see men who can apparently read women’s minds. Makes you wonder why they are so unsuccessful with them ![]()
M Ophelia… Who did you wrong?
Of course. Must be that. Couldn’t possibly be anything wrong with them ![]()
I work from the assumption that women are human. My men’s list would not be that different. I notice you don’t answer the question. You don’t give insight from your perspective as a woman. You just dump your usual bile. Contribute something. It is completely beyond your ken that my answers might have come from what women have told me. Like every man is some goon in a basement who fantasizes about women but never interacts with them. Why are you such a fuckwit?
I don’t know why they dress that way. I’ve never dressed ‘scantily’ at any time in my life because it’s not how I dress or feel comfortable. What does ‘scantily’ mean anyway? In Victorian times a woman was considered ‘scantily’ dressed if she showed her ankles. In muslim extremism showing ANY flesh at all is considered ‘scantily’ dressed and deserving of a severe beating.
Women don’t owe men any kind of explanation for how they dress.
I will give you exactly one reason
Culture
And thats it. It will decide how you dress regardless of your sex.
Yeah but that still begs the question. What determines culture?
And even then, when girls live in more restrictive traditions, they will tend to find a way to “girlify” as much as possible. Arab women, for instance, of older cultures that lived farther from the main centers of population, tended to wear stunning dress, even if it covered them almost completely. Dress that showed their figure and their sensuality.
Maybe women only “choose” not to try to feel sexy when forced to by some life hating lash.
Nobody and everybody, aka society.
You can climb deeper into the topic by starting to peel back how trends form, but the answer will be the same: The group will decide what is considered “positive” and what is considered “negative”.
Be careful cause those are two different topics.
Gender expression and how gender is expressed are two entirely different beasts.
One is biology, the other is sociology.
Only an idiot male would think that ‘scantily dressed’ is the only way to dress ‘sexily’ or ‘sensually’. You can be modestly covered and still be dressed ‘sexily’. Besides, some men are turned on by a nun’s habit. Women who think they have to dress scantily to attract men are usually naive and often only end up looking tacky. The OP only mentions ‘scantily’ dressed. Women dress in all manner of styles to suit themselves and feel comfortable. It’s not ALWAYS about MEN, although men being men like to think it is ![]()
Here are some sexy, scantily clad ladies for your enjoyment:
My daughter also was at the age where she wore, not much,
and she was pretty happy about it…as parents, we expressed
our ‘‘concern’’ but no kid, wants to hear from their parents about
how they dressed… and my daughter was the same…
I have 3 sisters, and I don’t recall them dressing that way,
but frankly I wasn’t paying much attention, I had my own
problems… my daughter is now 41 and she dresses ‘‘normal’’
middle age fashion… and I don’t know what clicked, but I suspect
that the type of attention she was getting wasn’t the attention
she wanted, I would guess that type of, less is more, dressing
goes away during collage or that age… it seems to be from
middle school to about 20 or so… as a father, I am not
impressed with it, but it isn’t my choice either…
kids should dress as they want as it is one way they
get ready for adulthood… and wearing not much,
won’t get them into collage nor a job… and I guess that
too is part of the equation… the kids dress that way because
there are no consequences until they get older…
but that is a guess on my part… I can’t really say much
as I mostly wear sweats these days… and I am good with that…

You are complicating something that is not complicated.
Women like to feel sexy. Unless forbidden to, that is how they will dress.
If it’s culture, if it’s “the group,” whatever it is, it will be on the basis of something.
Maybe if they all agree, and all cultures agree, unless some male-enforced interdiction exists, then it’s for a reason.
No, i am laying out something complex for you in simple terms.
This on the other hand skips the entire meaning behind the question, because you dont know what sexy is or what the reason for behavior is in the first place.
I have no idea what this means.
Males are subject to the exact same internalized social rules women are and women keep up social rules the exact same way (if not more) males do.
OK, my daughter just came home, wasn’t expecting her
and I asked her, why did she dress that way when she
was younger… and in part, it was to dress ‘‘sexy’’
and she brought up a point I didn’t even think about,
which is the ongoing competition that women/girls
have with each other… women dress for other women,
not for men… because frankly, men don’t care that much…
but women use their clothes, their accessories… purse
and belt and shoes and makeup and of course, Jewelry…
to send a ‘‘message’’ to other women… now, my
daughter also objected to my saying that she dressed
‘‘middle age’’ which she is, but she said, it wasn’t
middle age, but she is dressed ‘‘hip’’… if you say so…
and one other point she brought up, was that for women,
that they can only dress that way until they start gaining weight,
or as she said, getting fat… however I have seen a lot
of heavy-set women also dress, shall we say, minimally…
but they still think of themselves as sexy, so, internally,
I believe that there is a clash internally with women thinking
they are sexy but frankly are not and they should not,
especially as I saw a 350 pound women with short, very
short bottom and a shirt that didn’t cover anything because
she was too big… as a man, that isn’t a very good look…
but hay, if it works for them, more power to them, but
I don’t need or want to look at them… but it is still
their choice, as to how they dress, not mine…
which is also my response to men dressing as women,
as I saw a man, bald, 250 pounds easily, wearing a full blown dress
working at Nordstroms today… as one might guess, it was
in the makeup department… and that too is a choice…
his choice, not mine…
