As a result, I decided to create a Top 10 List topic where all of us could put a Top 10 list of whatever we want. I think this could lead to some various discussions as well as new topics if the discussion on a topic gets to such a length that someone feels it necessary to create a new topic.
Please post a Top 10 list regarding whatever you want and give commentary regarding other Top 10 lists, or if someone posts a Top 10 list, post your own Top 10 list regarding the same topic, whatever, just have fun!
My first Top 10 list: (On this thread, anyway)
My Top 10 Favorite Beers:
1.) Beamish Stout
2.) Leinenkugel’s Creamy Dark
3.) Newcastle Brown Ale
4.) Guinness Draught
5.) Konig Ludwig Dunkel
6.) Samuel Adams Black Lager
7.) Molsen Canadien Lager
8.) Shiner Bock
9.) Negra Modelo
10.) Fat Tire Amber Ale
2.) Sierra Nevada Porter almost took my tenth spot, I’ve never tried the Celebration.
3.) I’ve haven’t heard of about 75% of the beers you mentioned.
4.) I haven’t tried about 85% of the beers you mentioned.
5.) Here are the beers you mentioned that I think I would like but have not had:
Uerige Alt (classic), Klosterbrauerei Weltenburg Barock-Dunkel, New Glarus Fat Squirrel.
6.) Here are the beers I couldn’t really find anything about:
Kapstreiter Landbier, T.J.'s Best Bitter.
7.) I mean you no offense, but Korbinian sounds really weird.
8.) Did you really like my list? The least obscure beer (Sierra Nevada) is probably more obscure than anything on my list except for Leinenkugel’s.
9.) I would make a hard liquor list, but the only ones I really like are Bombay Sapphire Gin, JW Black Label and Disaronno are the only ones I really like.
The porter is really good. I like their stout too. But I look forward to their celebration every year. It is in season right now, there should be plenty floating around unless your state has an abv cap.
You should correct that!
You should correc that!
All three are awesome beers. The first two should be available at most good beer stores. The Fat Squirrel is only available in Wisconsin, unfortunately.
The Landbier is a fantastic brew from a small Austria brewery. You know the apocryphal story about how Michelangelo showed how awesome he was by drawing a perfect circle freehand? This beer is that circle. Soooo good. TJ’s BB, on the other hand, is a nice beer that a local brewpub puts on. In order to really shine, English beer needs to be served on cask, but casks don’t travel well. So having a locally brewed cask ale is just plain awesome.
Really? It is a standard Doppelbock from one of the world’s most well-known breweries. It really isn’t that exotic. The Cantillons, those are a little exotic. But a doppelbock? Come on!
Yeah! I’ve got a real soft-spot for Leinie’s. They helped introduce me to American beer and that ain’t bad. And aside from Big Eddy (which I only had once), Creamy Dark is their best brew. On top of that, I still pick up a sixer of Sam Adams Black Lager every now and again. I love a good schwarzbier and I love a good schwarzbier for the money. And the Konig Ludwig line was the non-local brewery that was ‘tied’ to my regular bar/club during High School, so I’ve got a lot of pleasant memories there. The rest, in a hermeneutic circle kinda way, all fit together. Can’t hate on a list that is consistent!
More of a beer man, m’self. Not that I don’t have other tastes, but I can’t really afford them!
Bleck! Leinie’s is what ends up in the mop bucket after you mop the floor of a good brewery!
BTW, a beer would have to be pretty damn good to be worthing living in Wisconsin!!
I’m a beer lover, too, but I’m more into wine nowadays. Beer is a bit more affordable but wine is very low in carbs; it’s much easier for me to stay at a good weight if I avoid beer.
When I do drink beer my favorite widely available brews are:
1 ) Bass Ale
2 ) Boulevard Pale Ale
3 ) Sam Adams Seasonal beers (esp Octoberfest & Winterlager, but they make a lot of great fall/winter beers)
4 ) Sapporo
5 ) Murphy’s Pub Draught (Guiness is also very good, just not quite as tasty)
6 ) Harp
7 ) Newcastle Brown Ale
8 ) Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
9 ) Stella Artois Premium Lager
10) Amstel Light (gotta toss in one that’s low carb, and it’s actually pretty tasty)
11) Blue Moon Belgian White Ale
If you want low carb, check out Cantillon. Their beers have almost no carbs, less than most dry wines, actually. A bit of an acquired taste since they are pre-Pasteurian, but damned tasty!
1.) Iowa
2.) Illinois (Rural)
3.) Maine
4.) Ohio
5.) Indiana (Rural)
6.) New Hampshire
7.) Rhode Island
8.) Oregon
9.) Alaska
10.) New Jersey (The people there have a collectively awesome sense of humor)
I have lived in 6 different states and only one on that list.
I haven’t heard TONS of Nas, but from what I have heard, his internal rhyme scheme is lacking. But I could be wrong on that one.
Regarding rappers, generally there are two things I listen for when judging their lyrical ability: internal rhyme scheme, and whatever the hell you’d call rhyming at the end of a sentence…
Eminem obviously tops the charts because not only does almost every single or syllable of his verse rhyme, but he also utilizes internal rhyme scheme:
In a couple of minutes that bottle of guiness is finished,
You are now allowed to officially slap bitches.
A lot of other rappers only rhyme at the end of the lyric:
This is why I’m hot, I don’t gotta rap,
I can sell a mill sayin’ nothing on a track,
I represent New York, I got it on my back.
The latter form of rapping isn’t as impressive to me.
