Some of you may have experienced some problems connecting to ILP today. A large part of the secondary network that connects largers parts of the internet together in Washington had a power outage for a few hours.
It’s now resolved so everyone should be able to connect without issues now.
This was a network problem so several areas of the internet would have been inaccessible.
OOOH that’s what it was, i was starting to think my IP was messed up again, or world ILP could be shutting down whoa, scary thought, but since it’s working now :D/
It was down at about 9 pm (GMT) last night when I tried to use it but my internet connection was fine so I assumed that it was something in between. Shit happens, one in the eye for the existentialists…
Oh goody! Avatar wars! I’m clean on that one. Seriously, one of the things slowing down page loading are the action avatars. If there are three or four posters with the moving avatars, or the half page avatars, opening a thread can be an opportunity for a lunch break.
There is a slight chance that we might have to place some limits on size and density in avatars to keep a reasonable flow in place.
uhhh, siatd, Tab’s avatar is one, but ummmm, what about…?
I have now changed my avatar to one that is one sixth of the kilobytes of the Tyler Durden one, which was about as big as the walking bum one. I am no longer contributing more that the average bear to the overall size of threads.
And the quality of my posts and overall charm of my character should entitle me to as large an avatar as I see fit to use.
Oh come on - my avatar’s only a poxy 125 something Kbytes. Blame Satyr - he said I was too darn nice - the new scary one is my attempt to become more… Imposing.
Anyway, it is my secret plan to weed out the impoverished (mentally or financially - you choose) posters on their measley modems… By causing them to noticably age whilst waiting for pages to load.
As you’ve probably seen this indicates your connection is bad before you try to cross the atlantic. Your ISP or perhaps a particular route it takes to get the data from your house to their main router is either overloaded or a little poorly sometimes.
Your options include complain to the ISP or change. Being Turkey it’s probably best to just leave as is? Not sure what the ISP choices there are and no idea what networking they use - might all share the same connections anyway.
As you can also see, once you get outside the country your connection is far more stable and the path to ilp is much cleaner. Its the last couple of hops that would indicate a problem with the actual website itself.
What !!! It’s a Turkish problem !!! It can’t possibly be true - this country that hums along like a well-oiled machine…? Oh hang on, what am I saying…? That’s a different country altogether.
Ah well, I’ll just give the little old lady that carries the data from my PC by hand to the local Post office exchange for sending some more Vimto, and maybe a couple of tabs of speed - see if that works.
Thanks obw. Never shall I criticize the hallowed server of ILP again.
