“”‘Barack Obama supports teaching sex education to kindergarteners,’" said Obama mimicking Keyes’ distinctive style of speech. “Which – I didn’t know what to tell him (laughter).”
“But it’s the right thing to do,” Obama continued, “to provide age-appropriate sex education, science-based sex education in schools.”"
good touch and bad touch? you didn’t read the law…

AN ACT concerning education.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Sections 27-9.1 and 27-9.2 as follows:
(105 ILCS 5/27-9.1) (from Ch. 122, par. 27-9.1) Sec. 27-9.1. Sex Education.
(a) No pupil shall be required to take or participate in any class or course in comprehensive sex education if the pupil’s his parent or guardian submits written objection thereto, and refusal to take or participate in such course or program shall not be reason for suspension or expulsion of such pupil. Each class or course in comprehensive sex education offered in any of grades K 6 through 12 shall include instruction on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including the prevention, transmission and spread of HIV AIDS. Nothing in this Section prohibits instruction in sanitation, hygiene or traditional courses in biology. (b) All public elementary, junior high, and senior high school classes that teach sex education and discuss sexual activity or behavior intercourse shall emphasize that abstinence is an effective method of preventing unintended is the expected norm in that abstinence from sexual intercourse is the only protection that is 100% effective against unwanted teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and HIV acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) when transmitted sexually."
teaching your kindergartner how to prevent stds is a far cry from touching…
It doesn’t say that you teach more than good touch bad touch in K. The law covers through grade 6, and that is when STDs need to be discussed. Conflating the premise and attributing evil intent is YOUR doing, not the law.
" Each class or course in comprehensive sex education offered in any of grades K 6 through 12 shall include instruction on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including the prevention, transmission and spread of HIV AIDS."
Kindergarten through 6th grade kids are the ones that are most commonly molested by family and family friends. I see nothing wrong in teaching children to know right from wrong. It gives them a defense. if Johnny or Jane starts asking certain questions his or her teacher would be alerted to something amiss. Now while this smacks of Big Brother. Little ones need all the help and protection they can get. The teachers can start the kid onto a path of getting help. I can’t stand Obama but he does have some sound ideas and this is one. if you wait till johnny or Jane are in High school or Jr. high the damage from being molested is pretty much set for life.
protecting from molestation is not the same as mandating they be taught “instruction on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including the prevention, transmission and spread of HIV AIDS.”
now we’ll count to 100, now recite the alphabet
tommy has one wee wee
johnny has one wee wee
when will tommy marry johnny?
You have to tell the idiots to keep thier hands off each other and then you have to tell them why; and having been around schools you find a lot of kids who know it is offensive and will do it anyway and whether it is because they have been molested in some sense, or are just sexually preoccupied, it still does not matter. They have to be informed, and it should be with a legal emphasis since even at a young age it is possible for children to commit crimes. Naturally, what I say here goes for all forms of assault, torts, violence and threats, and sexual displays and intimidation. Why wait for a kid to land in court before informing him of the law, and of what is correct social behavior? You have to consider that two percent will never get it; but why let it be more than the usual minimum? Knowledge is power because it is the power to do right, and knowledge is virtue because when we know right it is simple to do right.
Imp, what do you think the instructions will cover? Do you think you could get a kindergarten class set up that says for the prevention of molestion and how to know if you are being molested? Do you think that would get past the liberals and the religious conservatives? Not a chance in hell. But if it is about disease, welll, you can’t help it if kids ask questions now can you? Some times to get a good thing going you have to go around it.
“What happened: A new 30-second TV ad attacks Barack Obama’s record on education, saying that Obama backed legislation to teach " ‘comprehensive sex education’ to kindergartners.” The announcer then says, “Learning about sex before learning to read? Barack Obama. Wrong on education. Wrong for your family.”
This is a deliberately misleading accusation. It came hours after the Obama campaign released a TV ad critical of McCain’s votes on public education. As a state senator in Illinois, Obama did vote for but was not a sponsor of legislation dealing with sex ed for grades K-12.
But the legislation allowed local school boards to teach “age-appropriate” sex education, not comprehensive lessons to kindergartners, and it gave schools the ability to warn young children about inappropriate touching and sexual predators.
Republican Alan Keyes tried to use Obama’s vote against him in the 2004 U.S. Senate race. At the time, Obama spoke about wanting to protect young children from abuse. He made clear then that he was not supporting teaching kindergartners about explicit details of sex.
Obama spokesman Bill Burton said Tuesday of McCain’s ad: “It is shameful and downright perverse for the McCain campaign to use a bill that was written to protect young children from sexual predators as a recycled and discredited political attack against a father of two young girls.”

Apology Not Accepted
Posted by Joe Klein of Time Magazine
Back in 2000, after John McCain lost his mostly honorable campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, he went about apologizing to journalists–including me–for his most obvious mis-step: his support for keeping the confederate flag on the state house.
Now he is responsible for one of the sleaziest ads I’ve ever seen in presidential politics, so sleazy that I won’t abet its spread by linking to it, but here’s the McClatchy fact check.
I just can’t wait for the moment when John McCain–contrite and suddenly honorable again in victory or defeat–talks about how things got a little out of control in the passion of the moment. Talk about putting lipstick on a pig.
The Rovian formula for success works in the short run, but the diviseness, the diatribe, the innuendo of distorted claims is destroying what little civility there might have been in politics. Promotion of fear and loathing: What was the title of this thread? We all have the problem of peering through the “looking glass darkly”, but to smear this sort of shit on the mirror does a disservice to all - left or right.
