I actually saw this weapon in a demonstration a few weeks ago and thought that I’d share it with you guys.
Since Vietnam, the western public has been very sensitised to killing in both war and police related activities, so nonlethal weapons tech has been a huge subject in research and development. This is the latest and greatest, in my opinion.
The gun is amazing because one shot sends bolts of lightning out in a fan shape, thus hitting all targets at the speed of light. That’s like shooting everyone in a room at once.
The beauty of the device is that it’s really a kind of super squirt gun. A stream of ionised water is shot out and than at almost the same time a laser ignites the water, thus producing lightning. It’s a knockout!
The company is working on a canon version that, I believe will ionise the air with a high power laser and create lightning.
Questions:
So, what do all of you think of the implications of nonlethal weapons technology?
Since this does not kill, and I don’t think it even hurts too much, would you buy one for home defence? I’m especially interested in hearing from people that wouldn’t dream of owning a deadly weapon.
I think it’s a great idea, nonlethal weapons have come a long way from the days when “nonlethal” meant not hitting someone as hard with your club. We need to do a lot more work with nonlethal weaponry yet though, this is the first I’ve heard of a nonlethal weapon since they invented those beanbag shotguns for riot police.
This invention seems impractical for home defense just yet, but when they really work on this a lot more and reduce the size quite a bit I’m sure some people will buy them. Me, I’ll just stick to my reliable weapons I’m used to and make sure I can be nonlethal with them if need be.
I wish they would show this gun in public. I would also consider investing if I were you.
The home defense situation might be tough because if a family member is in front of you, then they get blasted too. However, they won’t die either and you are still in control.
Due to my new home I am going to buy a pistol, and I have some interesting insights about that, but for another thread.
