Would anyone agree that it probably will sooner than later?
the economy will do fine. the welfare state will collapse.

All I know is that the baby boomer generation is going to be a pain as far as taxes are concerned. shudder
The Comptroller General strongly disagrees with you.
This economy is poised to fall, and the majority of it has to do with poor day to day administration of the government, and the major turning point of allowing corporations the “rights of individual” which absolves them of the responsibility of proper conduct ~ they can fuck us and get away with it, and take the whole country down while they make billions, and no one can really do anything to stop them.
no, with the baby boomers beginning to retire, social security will collapse and we will have a nice civil war…

I agree with Imp here. I picture the ending of Atlas Shrugged with New York falling to the dark ages and the rest of the U.S. in near ruins, but with a free market society in its rebirth.
Someone pointed out that the Baby Boomers are about to retire, that wouldn’t be a problem if they weren’t dependant upon a government for their montly checks. But they are and the welfare state will fall. Especially with this odd mixture we have right now of facsism and socialism.
I think it will happen before anyone realizes.
The US is always printing money in case nobody knows. This obviously adds to inflation. We borrow billions from china, and have no plan to repay. When and how are we gonna get out of debt?
I think not having sound money is always the prelude to a corrupt system.
The ancient Maya used to use coco beans for currency, it made me think of a monitairy system in a whole new way.
LOL, “baby boomers” … what utter bullshit, get off the news channels and read about the actual economics.
It’s the pork bills and wars that debilitate the entire system, along with allowing corporations to use illegals for labor, and outsourcing American employment to foreign countries and foreigners with Visa’s, who send the majority of their income out of this country.
SSI is barely a penny a day loss in comparison.
who the fuck told you that? do you believe the social security lock box is tight too?
gird your loins…

SSI is Supplemental Security Income. It’s paid for out of general revenue. Are you referring to Old-Age, Survivors and Disability Insurance [OASDI]? That’s paid for by FICA and self-employment contributions.
No apologies Imp, but when the GAO says differently, I’m going to side with his numbers.
The war and corporate greed are leading this country into an unending depression, and directly, legislators who treat tax dollars like windfall money.
He controls the flow of money, and as a non-partisan entity, his knowledge supersedes both of ours.
You’ll have to argue it with him, he’s one of the few people that doesn’t stand to gain anything from blowing the whistle.
the general accounting office?
"The war and corporate greed are leading this country into an unending depression, and directly, legislators who treat tax dollars like windfall money. "
that is the mantra of a left wing slave.

“War and greed”…sounds like business as usual to me.
Will the economy collapse? It depends entirely on the confidence of the people who support that economy. To the extent that the controllers can balance the carrot stick routine, the economy will have survivable stability, but as the parable of the golden goose implies, there is an end to golden eggs - even for the controllers.
The illusion is the controllers are still able to control. We are in a global economy and when someone in BF Egypt burps or farts, the stink is right up in your face. The economy is this country is already ruined, and so while the prosperity may move from this country to another or others, the world economy will continue quite nicely until confidence is eroded to a collapse point. That is the dice shoot the controllers play - and they are definitely shooting dice.
humanity at its finest.

Unmitigated folderol. I have no partisanship, and pragmatically speaking, what was said, cannot be dismissed as a matter of political leaning.
Rome fell, and America lacks her glory, her virtu`, and her durability, both in citizenship and political acumen.
But history never repeats.
the war is a tiny percentage of spending…
yes, rome fell because rome had open borders…
the difference is that americans are armed…
history never repeats, and war never ends.

What I learned
Perpetual accelerating growth and sustainability are incompatible.
We are in credit rate increase because
china is not gonna loan the usa any more money. That is until some principle is paid. A couple of weeks ago china stopped buying american stocks and bonds. The revenue from this stocks and bonds finance the american econmy.
The principal is being squeezed from banks and loans. The federal tresury is squeezing its prime borrowers.
Mortgagees will default.
The principal will be paid; before china loans the usa any more money.
We will soon be in debt over our heads (as if we aren’t now), but as long as we can print money, we can postpone a collapse until the poor and middle-class suffers enough to ask why.
They won’t tell us if it’s going to happen tommorow if it is. It could really happen before you kenw it.
