Nah man, let’s just let Japan, and Iran, and North Korea have nuclear plants. I mean…you know…they should have freedom to have peaceful nuclear programs for energy. Because yeah, they’re not making bombs. It’s ok to let em play with nuclear stuff. If they have an accident it’s ok, because they didn’t mean to. We can’t just take away their rights because they’re too dumb to do nuclear energy correctly. That wouldn’t be fair. Future of humanity be damned. You know how this came about. Some guy saw that there was a leak which would lead to a disaster if it wasn’t addressed right away, but if he would tell his superior, his honor would be at stake. Maybe he would have to bow his head.
These sorts of things are maddening. Something could happen if something already did happen.

The Fukushima problem is not a matter matter of ambiguity, it is by many different accounts an extremely grave threat to the planets ecosystem.
The only question is whether the total collapse can be prevented or not, and if so, if the Japanese who caused it are to be trusted with that.

And while it focuses more on the past than the present, it seems to go in the other direction. Maybe I was reacting more to idea of invading Japan and dropping nuclear warheads on Tehran. Some folks apparently being more expendable than others.
