My point is only that someone should fucking do something about it, or rather, everyone should - the international community might come in handy, finally - there needs to be some pressure on Japan to resolve this. We can’t be standing on the sidelines and going “oh this is really bad, I hope they fix it”. That’s just too absurd.

I Think the irony of sending UN peacekeepers + plus a large regiment of civil engineers into Japan would be a good one. IOW I agree in general with the idea of your OP. Something aweful is happening. We intervene at least sometimes when aweful things happen. This aweful thing actually can be construed as a threat to our interests and Citizens in ways really rather large wars should not have been. But instead of the US going to war, an international intrusion - and the discussion leading up to it - might be useful.
