Video

We’ve added a couple new BBCode tags that allow you to embed video in posts. The videos must be hosted by either Youtube or Google Video, and there are separate tags for each:
Youtube:
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVnRzEjpUmE[/youtube]
Google Video:
[gvid]http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5980990221766439646[/gvid]

The syntax is important. The examples above are how the URL should appear, so remove any ampersands and anything that follows. In both examples. the bit at the end (to the right of the equals sign) is the video ID, and that should be the last thing on the URL. Also note that some videos don’t allow embedding, so not all videos will work. You will be able to see in the preview screen if a video is working.

Try to maximize the signal to noise ratio with the videos you post. Don’t use them to replace smileys, but share documentaries and news clips, review indy films, and inform discussions. Enjoy!

And if you post kiddie porn, please remember to do so ironically, because then it’s alright.

I posted my first vid, on the ‘What are you listening to right now’ thread - cool addition, thanks Carleas…

One other thing: if you’re looking at a region-specific version of Youtube, you have to edit the URL to make it look like the worldwide version. For instance, if your URL is “http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=I5ALIL7T764”, you’ll need to replace the “uk.” with “www.”, so it reads “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5ALIL7T764”. I think they always point to the same video, but make sure to preview just in case.
