Why are there so much more viewings then postings? Some of the viewings so out weigh the postings it is kind of strange. Like 1620 viewings to 20 posts on a thread. I suppose I view a little more more then I post just to watch how a disscusion is turning out or to rethink something by looking at it again. Is this the same reasons for everyone or are there others?
Probably. I know that I for one frequently go into threads, read a bit and decide I either have nothing to say that hasn’t been said or the topic turns out to be something I just don’t want to talk about.
The lurker to participant ratio is often skewed towards lurkers. The internet is a voyeuristic space.
Aye. That is true as well.
Kris,
Part of the reason is that ILP has many guests who read a thread and may or may not register as a member. If you look at the "who’s in the forums’ section at the bottom of the forum index, it will tell you the proportion of registered members as well as guests on at any given time. The guest list always outnumbers registered members.
Many members will tell you that they read for days or even weeks before registering as members.
Another mystery solved:
LOL I love it thanks I needed that side busting giggle, Tab. You know I think I remember that flick with Tucker, those old Scifis were so cheesy they were fun.
Still though is that all the pyschology forth coming on this topic or philosophy? you all can do better can’t you ? (wee little stupid challenge popping forth, I may be putting my foot in it here. ) Reach deep into those full vaults that you call minds.
It’s simple arithmetic
If I read a post and respond then that creates 2 viewings (1 when I read the thread, one when I read my reply to check how it looks). If I read but don’t reply then a viewing is added.
I used to respond to almost every thread that I read, now I read about 3 times as many threads as I comment on, which is preferable.
I would be one of those guests at times, I don’t sign in every visit. So if there are others that don’t sign in, they are shown as guests.
A
What SIAD said. And also, often I’ll keep on top of a thread but never post, so I may add 10-20 views by myself, but never submit. Three of four people like me, plus lurkers, and you’ve got quite a massive posts/views discrepancy.
OMG, Lurkers! I am surrounded by lurkers! And guests lurking about!
Uh, oh yea I guess I am one too. So if everyone lurks is it still lurking? and what a strange feeling and sounding word lurk, lurking, lurkers. Haah say it 8 to 15 times, fast, it constricts a muscle in your throat.
Draw the blinds at night. You never know who’s lurking…
LOL I have a phobia about looking out windows at night. It started with a vampire movie back in the 60s or 70s A couple of kids were in the back of a station wagon with curtains on the windows, it was at night, the guy fell asleep the blonde heard noise outside. The camera focused from the girl to the window several times the music builds. You tell her no,no don’t pull that curtain, of course the blonde yanks the curtain back and the hideous face of a vampire is there. Between the music and her screams and my brothers pulling stupid pranks once they figured it out that windows at night made me nervous, I developed this wierd phobia.
LOL I have developed a habit of avoiding eye contact with windows at night. So no Lurkers please . My brother got a fat lip from lurking and my son got a face full of tepid coffee. No lurking is safe around jumpy litle ol me
damn…
and the moral of the story iiiiiis…
kids,dont watch horror movies!
Oooooh but those old ones are sooo good, much better then today’s.
This is how much better they were; My son when he was at the strapping age of 16 had watched all the Freddy’s and other scary bloody horror flicks. Then he discovered that late night on certain channels old horror flicks came on. The new ones never bothered him. The old ones gave him nightmares.
Reason; The old ones left the gruesome details to your imagination, the music was actual background and not overwhelming the sound effects.
I made him stop watching them at night, the pain from bouncing out of bed, tripping over and stepping on sleeping cats and dogs in the dark, shins rammed into a forgotten chair or other, running into doors, all in order to save my baby from whatever horror was killing him, was just too much.
I enjoy watching the old ones they are either soo cheesy they are funny or very very good. Remember Michael Landon as the Werewolf? Wasn’t Lon Chaney the first WereWolf or Boris Karloff?
the google-effect adds to the number of views also, i think
Oh willem that is priceless posting, what timing and how interestingly it ties in. I love it. read my last post and then yours.LOL
lol, you’re right… what a nice coïncidence
