wait, oil firms are spending money on marketing?

the citizens of our glorious first world are or will be faced with an economic crisis resulting from the high price of gasoline. the price of gasoline is so high for many reasons, one of the most important of which is the search for more oil. it costs so frickin many millions of dollars to plow a stick into the ground to see if there is oil under there, and i respect that.

what about the owners of mobil gasoline trying to get customers from lukoil gasoline to stop buying gasoline from lukoil and start buying it from mobil?

i say, we murder or enslave anyone who even thinks about wasting my precious economy on trying to cannibalize market share. for fucks fucking sake we need that money to continue existing! and you are spending it on making your shareholders more wealthy than the shareholders of your competitors?! ILL KILL YOU!!

what is the problem with anally raping the freedom of the free market in this extremely extreme example of of a commodity A. not requiring the freedom of the free market to operate at full efficiency and B. the free choices actually inefficiently wasting money on the benefit of few at the expense of many.

i dont care if .0001% of exxon money is spent on marketing, it is way the hell too much for something that hurts way more than 99.999% of the population, probably including the shareholders. socialize that crap and spend the profits on alternative fuel research and maybe a little oil exploration but not really. DUH!

wait no lets worship freedom like it was jesus without a bible, or else we will all end up in gulags, eating tofu and being tortured for no reason. wait no we wont.

what is the real reason why anyone thinks we shouldnt socialize the in-crisis-energy industry? campaign contributions? religious rhetoric? both? or something not worthy of torture and enslavement?

The only real solutions to the energy crisis is :

  1. Telecommuting, working from home, or at least 3 or 4 times a week this way avoiding the great waste of energy to go to and from work. Companies also save by not having so many offices, and productivity (whatever on earth that ever really meant) increases since you really work at home instead of goofing off at “work”.

  2. Introduction of a huge public transportation network, busses and trains, but especially company busses that bring people to and from work, and busses to the malls.

  3. avoid wasting energy on alot of useless crap…
