One feature we have on the forum is the link you will find at the bottom of a thread that allows you to ‘subscribe’ to this thread, and in turn receive email alerts when someone replies to it.
Could you please vote in the poll to indicate what your experience of this feature has been.
Please note that some delays might be caused by your mail server or ISP. To be sure - check the timestamp on your email for when it was ‘really’ sent and compare this to the time stamp on the post in question, then answer the poll.
As a person who tries to read the forums on a daily basis the use of this feature would be somewhat redundant. I imagine it is similar for other people.
OMG another button to play with! How cool is that, I soo love to confuse myself. It is fun trying to figure out my inept computer screw ups. If I don’t fix it, hubby gets a tad huffy, at least till I coo sweet nothings in his ear. He just won’t let me have the time to figure it out (sigggghhhhhh) Where is this new button where? Ahhh, pooh, it is just a box that requires a click. Wait! oohhhhhhh look at all those options wow a girl could have fun with those boxes. I have no clue what a BBCode is or what disabling HTMLS will do, so Here goes the fun.
I’m the one who voted that the timing is off, Obw, so you haven’t learned anything you didn’t already know. I have no other email problems though so I can’t say it’s my own ISP.
It’s important to me because I find myself often engaged in conversations that move rather rapidly back and forth. But I work and I just can’t pay that close attention to the movement of every topic I’m a part of. Without the notifcation, I often miss entire discussions that I would like to have participated in. Timing is crucial sometimes as often the conversations seem to kind of have a life and a pace of their own. I’ll finally get around to bouncing around the forums later in the evening and that’s when I’ll notice that there’s been 17 replies since my last post under a thread.
If it’s just me though don’t worry about it. I’m trying to pay closer attention to the threads I’m involved in.
I subscribed to this thread and received an email 10 minutes after the post. I sometimes use this feature but I don’t really mind that it comes 10 minutes after the post. I mean I’m not online 24 hours a day am I?
It’s intermittent with me. Some are on time, some are 10 minutes, some lately have actually come days late. I got one today from a reply posted on Friday…
Oh, I thought this thread was about the ‘watch this topic’ feature. I automatically get an email after I reply to any thread and yes, sometimes a couple of days late.
Jerry- Is your issue with the ‘watch my thread’ feature or with the option in your profile to receive email from threads you are participating in (or whatever that option is…)
Either way. Whether I’m “watching” a thread and receiving email notifications or receiving notifications automatically because I have posted on a thread. The notifications themselves are intermittently delayed. The one notifying me that you just posted came right away. You might post right after this and the notification will arrive on Friday.
So far as I can tell, I ultimately receive every notification. It’s not a problem of not being notified. It’s just a time thing.
I finally routed all my notifications to junk mail (not that it’s junk!) and the only notification coming into email is PM alerts. I usually clean out the junk mail when I first turn on the machine, and that tells me if there is activity in a ‘watched’ thread. Once a day usually does it for me.
hmmmm, somewhat ironically, i sung the praises of this feature, it was working perfectly for 2 years, n now i jinxed it, its not late, BUT it is sending me notification from threads that i’m not watching/haven’t posted in hmmm… bizarre, anyone else getting THAT problem???

Right…and for you guys, the delays are definitely between the stamp on the email and the stamp on the post (i.e. allowing for the possibility that your mail server ir isp has delays too).
My only problem is for the past week or two I have to constantly log in.
I log in, if I wish to post a reply I log in, if I send the reply it says the page does not exist and that I need to refresh. So guess what ! I have to log in again. what is the problem?
Do you have cookies enabled in your browser? If you’re not sure, are there other sites you log in to which keep you logged in? Is it happening with those sites too or just ilp?
cookies are enabled, there are no other sites that has problems, just Ilp wanting me to login every time I go to post or when I submit sometimes it is both.
