what am i looking for? and have you found it?

I have been searching for some kind of meaning, some indistinct truth for 33 years now. Have you found your truth? If you have would you like to share it with me? The closest I’ve come to understanding is Buddhism. the idea that we are indeed responsible for our own actions, that the craving for an event, outcome, wish etc brings suffering. But still it’s not one hundred percent clicking with me.

HELP???
thanks

Clicking with you??? You don’t have to work to achieve enlightenment to be one. You need the Holy Spirit to feel whole. Go to a spirit filled church and ask what you need.

Keep trying. Make your own.

Don’t give up and join the Borg.

I say your purpose is to preserve your pattern. To resist change and entropy. What do you think?

You’re in the right place coming to ILP.

What is truth?

“understanding” what?

In terms of finding one truth: There is not one answer to every question. Further, there are many different answers for one question! :-k

Oh, how true. I think I am content, but as with all things, I may be wrong. Some event is bound to come along and drag me back into involvement in the everyday world, much as I try to ignore it. My wife usually assists in that process!

So where am I? A belief amounting to certainty that some aspect of me will survive the death of this body, it’s happened before and will happen again, re-incarnation if you like, although that’s a great over-simplification of the actual position. A belief that this me is only a very small part of a larger unit; the best expression I have heard is a ‘group soul complex’ and that the brain is merely the organ which connects the mind to the body and, indeed, separates ‘me’ from this vast source of information.

I think a good analogy, although again woefully short of the truth, is that ‘me’ can be likened to the ganglia (?) which controls the tentacle of an octopus but, in my case, is unaware of, or at least has no direct knowledge of, no matter how much I philosophize, the creature of which it is part.

So how did I get here? Much reading and thinking. The first book that made me ‘sit up’ was ‘The Sleeping Prophet’, one of at least three life stories of Edgar Cayce, a man who seems to have had the ability to diagnose, extremely accurately, the physical conditions of people he had never met. Damn clever trick!!! Especially when done 9000 times!!! This led me to read every, what some might call ‘off the wall’ book I could find. Nobody said the truth would come ‘easily’.

I find myself persuaded by some of what I have read and not by, what must be, the majority. Throughout I have kept in mind that the truth must have a logical consistency. ‘We will all go to heaven and it will be wonderful’ leaves me cold.

I suppose I now think that whatever will happen will happen and there is very little if anything I can do about it. Possibly the only free will I have is contained in the attitude I have to these events. The Greeks called it Stoicism, I believe. But it doesn’t matter, it is all meant to be, and I will find out the truth one day anyway.

Science has come to my assistance in that there would appear to be eleven dimensions to the universe (string or M theory) and 95 per cent of the universe is missing (classical physics) so there would appear to be masses of ‘space’ for other realities to exist when I depart this earth.

So, back to that original quote, the absence of a ‘craving’ for an outcome, at least most of the time these days, does lead to contentment. Your post is one of the most interesting I have come across on this sight and your ‘avatar’ seems to suggest you are well on the way to contentment yourself. Let,s hope this answer stirs up a honet’s nest and we can continue in this vein.

PS The latest book that I have found which adds something positive to your, indeed our, enquiry is called ‘Supernatural’ by Graham Hancock. Happy reading.

Most people can’t handle the truth. :frowning:

Maybe he just needs a good blowjob from a hot girl?

Truth is existence of spiritual and material.

That is Lie. Everybody knows. Everything you Know Is truth, everything you believe is Lie, by default, because It is not truth.
Unless you deny reality.

There is only one true answer per question, per person.
You wouldn’t be You, If you have more than One true answer per question.
Me, myself, I, would become obsolete.
Physical eternity is different ball game. We’re not there yet.

The truth is already within you, all you have to do is find yourself,
before you get lost forever.
You are Not responsible for your actions, because you never chose, or
wanted to be You.
Choice is the only problem that you have right now.
I can help you understand that problem is actualy illusion, and all that
you actualy have is situation called Life.

Check out Wiki for some beginning direction.

Common dictionary definitions of truth mention some form of accord with fact or reality. There is no single definition of truth about which the majority of scholars agree, and numerous theories of truth continue to be widely debated. There are many differing claims on such questions as what constitutes truth; how to define and identify truth; what roles do revealed and acquired knowledge play; and whether truth is subjective, relative, objective, or absolute. This article introduces the various perspectives and claims throughout history.

What does that do for TRUTH?
What is true if every person has a different answer for every question?
Or what good does it do to call it true for them?

If I think it is TRUE I am God…
or that there is no God…
or if I’m a Solipsist…
or that everything is made out of hamburgers…
or that 2 + 2 is 45,857…

What does that do for the term TRUTH? :astonished:

It is my definition that you did not take for a spin, without even bother.
Truth is word that have existed before matter was created, to cover existence of energy, than matter was created, also truth, planets existed,
truth. Look around you at all the marvels of human brain, that did not
exist 200 years ago. Was frequency modulation Lie, before Tesla came,
and invented Radio ?
Before human brain came onto scene, everything was Lie ?
Do you exist, or is it only your belief ?

Truth is only word, what matters is connection in your mind, which that word implies.
Do Animals know what is truth ?
I have told you One true answer for ONE QUESTION PER PERSON.
If you have One Apple and One Pear in front of You, and You can chose Only One Fruit…
Do you KNOW you’re GOD ?
Is there a GOD ?
Is everything made out of hamburgers ??
I told you, if you deny Reality, I do not want to be part of your Imagination.
Everything you know is truth, everything that you know exist.
Lie is Belief, a major human emotion. It is impuls that your mind perceive
when you can’t know something.
Every Religion is based upon Belief, they like to call Faith.

Someone asked Jesus the same question…

John 18:38
“What is truth?” Pilate asked.

That dummy. Why would anybody ask Jesus something like that?

Psot dieted.

Jesus isn’t a verb last time I checked.

Truth is getting good head?
