what!? arcneic in apples?

I saw this when reading up on what not to feed dogs…

"Apple seeds, cherry pits, peach pits, and plum pits contain the toxin cyanide. "

I looked further into it and apparently it would take a truck load to harm a human and it would have to be crushed seeds…yet apparently it is enough to harm a 20 pound dog.

It would take a lot of chocolate to kill a human. Competitively, it takes a dog a lot less to get sick.

Maybe it’s cause we’re dealing with different mammals.

Yeah, I remember being told by my elders not to swallow apple seeds because they were poisonous - when I was a kid I thought that if you swallowed seeds that trees would grow inside you… oh how my mum laughed when I told her that one #-o and she then proceeded to give me a brief Biology lesson on the digestive system.

I’m glad that’s what it would take to harm a human. It’s a pretty rare event for me to eat an apple, prefer vegetables, in general, but when I do eat an apple it’s the whole thing.

I always eat the core and the seeds. the good news is that i have probably developed a high tolerance for arsenic. Probably you have, too, Pav.

I have been looking into some things and i haven’t concluded yet, and i am waiting for a reply from a scientist who did a study on it but it is possible that such a small dose of cyanide could actually.
aid the self-production of vitamin B12…

…so if anyone tried to poison you with cyanide… you’d both survive the attempt  I don’t eat the core/seeds… therefore I would not :frowning:
