What can we know about the historical Jesus?

Is this for real…? :open_mouth:

Scariest Books That Were Absolutely BANNED From The Bible!

…25 minutes in, on the influence of Paul on the bible.

The mythical resonance of the Jesus story is unquestionable. It is the West’s central instance of what Joseph Campbell referred to as the myth of “ the hero with 1000 faces.” Jordan Peterson approaches the question the same way.

As Paul Tillich said it is question of ultimate concern. An existential question. The existential question. In the gospel, Jesus asks “ Who do people say I am?”

That’s why the historical research continues on every level. It’s a burning question.

That’s why the evangelicals claim absolute inerrancy for the Bible. The existential anxiety is intolerable. The fear, however, is based on ignorance of their true identity, which means they don’t understand Jesus. (See the Gospel of Thomas)

Seems like a lot has been removed and continuously added to the Bible for purposes of agenda.

So then how much of it can be said is evidence of or historical when things like that happen.

Something historical in my eyes loses more and more credibility the more it is tampered with. For example, if someone rewrote the stories of Alexander the Great, how credible would his historical story be if people kept changing it and or took things out of it.

This is why archaeologists do not allow the public into Egyptian pyramids or sacred sites for example, tampering = losing credibility, can also lead to destruction of artifacts, stories, etc.

The first 20 mins reminds me of the canaanites.

If Jesus never called himself a miracle worker or son of god and it is merely the people after him fabricating such, then I would be more on board that a Jesus figure did walk the earth.

But the idea that is portrayed of Jesus currently, whether fiction or not, I can’t align with the view that he is more than merely an idea, ideas are more powerful than any man, they cannot be killed, they also return and in some cases, never leave to begin with.

So in biblical terms, it makes more sense for him to “return after death” via his resurrection if he were an idea. The point is to be like Jesus, adopt the idea of him, an apparent morally good man.

It is like Mags posted with that video though, the Bible has been tampered with and things removed and added so many times that it is difficult to account for what’s real and what isn’t. Usually for agendas.

Comic book fodder? Oops I meant that for Le Chic.

He didn’t call himself a miracle worker. He wrote nothing. The gospels were written no one knows when, no one knows by whom after Paul who doesn’t represent those who knew Jesus in the flesh. You have to read between the lines and there are many lines. But the pointers are there. Nature is the actual book. Everything we need to know is written there. These days the Bible mainly gets people shook up and confused. It’s one more thing to fight over. Just what the world needs. :disappointed_relieved::rofl:

Thomas Paine. The age of reason.

There are missing books and chapters from the Gospels and Bible, but I need to look into exactly what, further.

Why does it matter?

And that part of you that is in everyone — the part that hungers for something that matters —

…what fed that hunger long enough to evolve a hunger for it?

Or was it programmed in from the very first program?

By whom?

Someone who knew about error correction.

Someone who is alive while living and still alive after death

Someone who knows the satisfaction of that hunger is worth thriving and dying for.

Two well-known Books that were removed from the Bible, because they didn’t fit a certain narrative.

What are the fallen angels in the Book of Enoch?

The Fallen Angels of Enoch: Vicious Villains or Virtuous Victims?

The Book of Enoch tells the story of two hundred Watchers, or angels, sent to watch over humanity. These Watchers conspired to commit sins by taking human women as wives and having children with them. They also taught humans many skills relating to the different disciplines of science we practice today.
.

Where did the giants come from in the Bible?

Nephilim - Wikipedia

Their origins are disputed. Some, including the author of the Book of Enoch, view them as offspring of fallen angels and humans. Others view them as offspring of the descendants of Seth and Cain. This reference to them is in Genesis 6:1–4, but the passage is ambiguous and the identity of the Nephilim is disputed.

Why obsess over stuff like that? That’s like people believing in the Mandela effect. You can live your life in alignment with self=other, on the very edge of or in complete diversion from what the world considers normal… and never know about that stuff. But sure emphasize the importance of your daily horoscope and tarot crap. Chalk it up to karma so you don’t have to actually focus on the good, beautiful, and true and outdoing one another in love. And loving your enemies. That’s the hard stuff. Bad things happen to good people because mercury is in retrograde, man.

In the Bible, Jude 1:14-15 says, “Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: ‘See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him’”.

No one has to believe in the Mandela effect, it just is.

So basically angels got horny and had sex with human women. If I was an angel I’d probably be bored and horny too, must be a boring existence to shepherd another small species and constantly be a do good’er.

Why was that portion removed from the Bible in the first place?

Read all of Jude. Very short. & Eph 6:12. & Titus 3:9.

Treat self as other because the same was done for you, & you’re good to go.

Artemis, I apologize that I mentioned the (lack of) Mandela effect. It is definitely off-topic. But what else is new?

It’s been going on since 2013 when first realized. Many people believed Mandela died in the 1980s in prison.

…having an interest in, is obsessing?
