What do you think is higher, beauty or intelligence?

What do you think is higher, beauty or intelligence?

Which is the most important aspect of life? And how do you judge either of them? Are looking the part and being the part two separate things? A guy may go for a girl because he says she’s super hot. But what if she’s an idiot?

I have a crazy theory that you can’t be ugly and intelligent. They don’t go together.
Often intelligent people are mistaken for ugly when really they’re good looking to smart people only. Like, you need some kind of secret code for your vision.

Intelligence can take you places that beauty cannot although there can also be beauty within intelligence
For one can have a beautiful mind so sometimes they are not just complimentary but interdependent also

Yeah… This is a no brainer… Beauty

Intelligence can be beauty.

We seek beauty ultimately.

Ok, but my theory isn’t that you can’t be beautiful and intelligent, it’s that you can’t be ugly and intelligent. In other words, beauty is being overlooked. Ugly is confused with beauty. Between stupidity and intelligence, Intelligence and ONLY intelligence is beautiful. I think pretty judgments on stupid people and ugly judgments made on intelligent people are wrong.

Of course! With intelligence, you’d be smart enough to get a nose job.

Sorry, had to.

But seriously, I think it’s true that an intelligent character adds to the attractiveness of a person. But this is being told from a female perspective. Women find inner characteristics attractive more than men, or so we’re told, so I can see intelligence adding to the attractiveness of a person from a woman’s perspective.

things can’t be called higher in and of themselves.

say NO to platonic realism.

there has to be something at which things are higher at or for being such and such, unless you mean to ask how something can be deontologically or imperatively categorical… which i don’t think is what you’re doing.

so you have either a categorical imperative in which something or some action is valuable without further explaination or justification, or a categorcial hypothetical in which something or some act is good for something that can be relatively agreed on by two or more persons.

for example, if it is agreed that beauty is the most important thing, it could be more or less agreed on that playing chess and reading science journals isn’t as valuable as the activity of exercising or eating leafy green vegetables.

on the other hand, can two people, one of which thinks X is smart but ugly, the other of which thinks X is dumb but beautiful, agree on what smart and beautiful are? apparantly not, so now it’s just a question of preference and opinion. and if that’s the case, you might as well not ask it because who cares what the other person thinks… unless you want to rely on what other people think to have your own opinion about the matter, or unless you are trying to decide what you would rather be, smart or beautiful, or unless you are doing a paper for a sociology class and you need to take a poll at a philosophy forum for your research.

So why don’t you ditch the theory and adopt an intelligent one?

Dear god, this thread is full of so much fail, it’s cute.

Beauty is only subjective whilst intelligence is objectively measurable
Beauty is just skin deep but intelligence resides deep within the brain
Beauty can be seen by all but intelligence may be shown to only some
Beauty is to be found in art while intelligence is to be found in science
Beauty is assumed to be female and intelligence is assumed to be male
Beauty will fade over time while intelligence can accumulate over time

In nature, there is neither beauty nor intelligence per se, only complex conglomeration of ordering and dis-ordering. Efficiency is the goal.

Well, looks to me like they are both idiots, but one feels the lack of a particular type of ordering he calls “super hot”.

Not good looking, but attractive. This would be a matter of internal perception, not vision. A triggering of own internal element. Limmerence would be one example of this.

Humans sometimes subconsciously associate ugliness with immorality
and beauty with morality. But there is zero causation between these
An ugly person may be moral and a beautiful person may be immoral
And so you cannot tell how moral someone is by just looking at them
This is just simply the worst kind of amateur psychology that there is

That’s not what I said.

It’s my view that higher intelligence allows us to see more, and even be nicer and invite the idea that certain things are attractive, like a big nose, that people with stupid opinions (and a low IQ) are not able to see or understand.

well now that you mention it there is a grey area there where one can almost convince themselves that they find a feature attractive when they really don’t. justifying it intellectually and interpreting it in an artistic way so that the ‘ugly is mastered’, as N put it. here our instincts are ‘over-rided’ by a higher cognitive process that puts an ugly thing into a perspective that makes it agreeable.

but this is hard to do the right way. you have to be careful you aren’t just making excuses for accepting something in a way you wouldn’t ordinarily accept it. a big nose is a big nose no matter how you look at it or justify it philosophically and artistically, and is rarely something beautiful. you have your work cut out for you as an artist to make a big nose agreeable.

Wait, I thought we were talking about intelligence and attractiveness in the same person, not an intelligent person finding someone else attractive.

In light of your new theory, you should update your name from ‘UglyGirl26’ to ‘UglyANDStupidGirl26’, or simply, ‘UglyStupidGirl26’ to show your adherence to it.

We were talking about that, intelligent people being more attractive than stupid people. How this happens is simple- stupid people have stupid opinions, and intelligent people have decent ones. A stupid person with intelligent opinion GOT IT from somewhere. Chances are, an intelligent person is going to compliment their self and they’re going to be right about it, whereas a stupid person is going to be wrong even in the event that they get it right and call an intelligent person beautiful, because stupid people think what they’re told to anyway. So in that way, we can take an intelligent opinion over a stupid one. Intelligent people set the beauty standard. Whatever they say, goes.

An intelligent person can spot an intelligent person because they compliment each other, and they look better. How do they look better? Simple, they tell each other that.
A stupid person calling a stupid person beautiful doesn’t have the same power. Intelligent opinion is higher than stupid, lower opinion. When stupid people fight, they’re ugly. When intelligent people fight, they’re still beautiful. Like a zombie and zombie versus a lion and a lion.

This is like a joke thread, but I’ll contribute to it anyway.

No, no, no, no, no, and no.

No times 100.

It’s not a joke, Trixie.

Then why am I laughing?

Scorn stupid people much?
