What does the Government know?

I once told a friend that I wanted the Goverments of the world to release all the information they had about everything they have ever studied/know. I guess this makes me a truth seeker.

However, he said they couldn’t do that because people would riot and there would be chaos.

I agreed with him in the strict sense, that people allow their government officials to withold information based on the idea of protection. But how far does that excuse go before we are operating as a society on misinformation, that very well could be harming us more.

The difference between him and I is that he would rather live in the dark, while I would rather be slaughtered in a riot, with the full knowledge of the scope and the sphere of my existence on this planet.

Perhaps they know specifically why we are the most depressed country in the world, not just speculation, but the real deal info.

Maybe they have done studies on sound and lyrics, trends in the world of music, how it affects society. For example, maybe grunge music and kurt cobain were considered a threat? Does anyone even know if a government department like this exists?

What i’m saying is, the list of what they can possibly know is not endless, but long enough, and not shared in this AGE OF INFORMATION. More is supressed and witheld and manipulated than ever.

I just want the bonafide facts. Nice to want.

My feeling that not every conspiracy has to be or is true, only a fraction, even one percent, if it were true would probably change our perception radically about how we see our place in the universe.

And not everything they know or studied has to be bad.

A wise man once said if you want to know the direction of a country, study the trends of music in the culture. Does anyone know if government does this?

I was agreeing with you until that. Try living in N. Korea, Borneo, or under any of a large selection of brutal dictatorships that subject three-quarters of the World’s population. Knowing that’s what you believe, that’s probably what they’d tell you. That’s what they’re doing now with global warming and big government socialism–and that’s the important stuff. I’m sure they’ll be glad to tell you how depressed we are if it’s likely that you’ll vote for whoever tells you so. Fact is there’s all kinds of truthful information being put out every day by government and elsewhere, but we just aren’t interested enough to care, or there are those who bury it because they know we do care.

In any case, I agree that the Truth is better than an outright lie, half-truth, hidden truth or obfuscation. And thinking about it, I don’t know what specifically would cause chaos in the streets and what wouldn’t.

Why? What’s so great about “the truth?”

It can make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. What’s so great about greatness?

Yea, off course. The question still remains. Why does “the truth” make one warm and fuzzy inside. And if the truth is searched for only because it brings about a warm and fuzzy feeling inside for an as of yet unspecified reason, then couldn’t we just choose to believe lies that induce in us the same feeling since “the truth” is always hard to find whereas lies that have the same effect as “the truth” are so readily available? Why pick the red pill if the blue pill is easier to find and both induce the same warm and fuzzy feeling.

That’s a good question. I’m not sure.

It can make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Sure you could believe the lies if you want, and it might just very well induce those same feelings. Maybe its a question of permenance.

On one hand, humans are prepared to trek the frontiers of space for answers. On the other hand, some humans are willing to look deep within themselves, without traveling.

Maybe the truth would let us know.

What does the government know? How to construct a beautiful lie filled with temptation to fool and bait us all.

( I get 10,000 points for answering this question.)

I much prefer good order vs. chaos?

So you dont value the meaning behind the possible chaos? Maybe if you knew the truth behind your existence, you would never look at order again in the same way.

I can tell you that the government knows a great deal about citizens who are a “liability”( politically active, ethnic and religious minorities, those with criminal offences on their record, the people that work in government itself and other, people who travel abroad). An example is the history of Modern Greece. In the 1980’s the parliament decided to officially destroy the “filing” system. There were over 2 million files(officially) burned, in a country where the population is about 10 million. Imagine. :astonished: Files were kept on leftists, liberals and opposers of regimes, as well as their family members.
Here in Cyprus I know for a fact, being a “dangerous minority liable to engage in espionage” :unamused: that they would listen to my telephone( since surveillance methods aren’t sophisticated or competent by the Cypriot police it wasn’t hard to realize someone was on the line when the phone was being used). If things like this happen in a country with a population of less than 1 million, and the size of a rock, imagine what governments in large states with large resources know.

oh the government knows everything… it is a fact that every baby born in an american hospital since 1977 has had the brain monitor installed in the base of their skull… it reads and transmits every brain wave (thought) that every human has to the giant computer under the pentagon…

tin foil hats actually do disrupt the signals…
