What is a quantum dot?

Can someone explain to me what a quantum dot is, preferably in the simplest layman’s terms possible?
:sunglasses:

I’ve never heard of it, but there’s a theory that space is actually grainy instead of some fluid substance.

Maybe a quantum dot is the size of a grain? Like, a a cube with each side the size of the Planck Length?

Lol, should’ve asked almighty Wikipedia first…

It just constrains the motion of electrons in every direction. Read the wiki article.

something that doesn’t exist.

Yeah they do they’ve been made…

Prove it.

I should have known that a site with such backing and funding would have been a haven for crackpots, liars and thieves.

I’m so glad that I’m not you.

Are you some kind of joke, Lohnen? I agree with your name that you’re not worthwhile, but is it some kind of test? You’re just absurd.

My name says “They aren’t worth it.” It’s a reference to wasting my time with people who want to destroy everything life brings. They aren’t worth my time. It also references the fact that no one is worth anything, no one holds any value. People aren’t cattle, etc.

Wikipedia bias:

I hope you dont mind this long post. But since you seem like the type to make an excuse to not click on the above link I will post some relevant topics from it from which you can research yourself.

Your faith in me being a joke, is quite a joke. Thanks for letting us all know you are just a kidder! Keep posting!

Of course, it would be perfectly logical to suspect that Conservapedia with it’s ridiculous name and opposition to wikipedia is just the other side of the same coin which is neo-conservatism. As a matter of fact, I’ve already found a few relevant articles that prove my point. However, I’ve checked out the innacuracies on wikipedia for myself. I’d suggest you do the same.

I wasn’t even referring to your aversion to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is very good for certain applications and very bad for others, that’s completely true.

I was referring to you asking someone to prove the existence of a quantum dot. They’ve been made! They’ve been experimented with!

Now go on, be lame, and say they’re just adding dye to water…

Anything with ‘quantum’ in it should be suspected as quackery. However, anything you can produce, no matter how small, isn’t separate from anything else. The quantum ‘dot’ is just another unit of measurement. It’s the same thing as ‘particle’. A particle only “exists” if you are going to label a unit of measurement that small a particle. It’s really in the eye of the beholder.

Have you ever taken a science course in your life? This is the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard.

Maybe you’d like to argue with her…

Sounds like pulsars and black holes to me, all of which I’ve already provided the common sense that dispels such absurd theories.

Seriously, there is something fishy going on with jewish surnames and ‘scientific achievements’. I mean I know there are a lot of jewish physicists, but why are there so many of them coming up with crackpot theories?

Berg. Yeah, sorry, I’m a skeptic. Not because she’s jewish, but because most of the crackpot theories I’ve heard have come from famous Jews. Again, it’s not because it’s Jewish. It’s just a counter-measure. I’m skeptical.

:astonished: I suppose you have a final solution :astonished:

Right, anything negative anyone has to say about jews is automatically anti-semitic diatribe and deserves to be censored and silenced.

Give me a fucking break.

^^ When it’s an unfounded prejudice, then yeah. And you’re German (or you at least pretend to speak German, so on the internet you represent a German to most people) so you of all people should be careful. From what I hear that isn’t the case at all in Germany, which I find odd.

LohnenNicht, what is your position?

Are you a hardcore reductionist? Why is quantum mechanics so distasteful, especially when they have evidence. I don’t understand why, so I’m trying to understand…

I know QM isn’t everything, but to say there’s nothing it is, is complete bullocks.

Why should I be careful? I’ll say whatever the hell I want. Am I supposed to fear jewish control on the internet or something? (are you an anti-semite now I wonder LOL) Are you perhaps jewish and comfortable thinking that I’m supposed to kiss jewish ass?

And obviously, you think I should be censored and silenced. That’s not very american of you and from the encounters I’ve had with jews, it’s typical of jews to think that freedom of speech is somehow limited and that certain things should be ‘banned’ from the public’s ear, like Holocaust Revisionism.

No. Just you.

Ahh, so you are Jewish then. That’s what I thought.

And obviously, since you took the last sentence from my post and said “this is why you should be banned!” You don’t care about freedom of speech. Personally, I really don’t care who whatever offends. Everything deserves to be heard. It’s not ‘harmful’. The public can think for them fucking selves. It’s as if you are admitting that the media is already trying to brainwash people, because people can’t think for themselves… so then why is the media so biased against anyone who questions the validity of the holocaust?

Keep in mind I haven’t even stated my position on the holocaust. I really dont’ know enough about it to make a statement about it.
