what is life?

Are you absolutely sure?

Skeptic

Not really, only Goethe

Skeptic

Not really. I said I couldn’t come to any conclusion cos life doesn’t seem definable.

Skeptic

Hm, I thought we were talking about the meaning of live more than just a simple definition… Can you explain it better… what do you mean about beginning?

Skeptic

Ok then. Parmenedes and his followers believed that all change is an illusion. There is only one reality, which includes all that is finite, uniform, motionless and fixed and can be understood only through reason. Any sensory experience is a mere illusion. Why he believe that? Because he thought that one thing can’t be (e.g) hot and cold at the same time (existing). If one thing is hot, than it is hot, it can’t be also cold. For this to happen then this thing has to change it state, and this is an illusion.

Skeptic

Agree. When I said that we could be mistaken about reality I meant that not everything we are able to see is the truth. If you watch the news and Mr Bush says ‘we are going to disarm saddam because he has weapons of mass destruction’, is that the real reason? Does he really have weapons? It might be the ‘reality’ showed to us, but doesn’t mean it’s the absolute truth. That’s what I meant.

Do you eat? Do you keep eating forever or you eventually stop? Do you sleep? Do you talk?
Every event has an end. If your sleep never ends, then it doesn’t exist , cos you would never consider yourself sleeping for you would never know what not sleeping would be.

Ok, prove me he created it and I change my mind. Unfortunately, I can’t find those obvious proofs, you have to show me or tell me.

What else exists? Father Xmas? Easter Bunny? They might exist, is not because you don’t believe that they don’t.
If you can use this as ‘explanation’, then I can use this one: He doesn’t exist, even tho some people need and believe in his existence.
[/quote]

You exist, Clementine, your free will exists. And not knowing for what you have this power to choose, leaves you only with this possibility, of God’s existence. It’s obvious that ephemerality has no meaning, no rock to sustain it. And the Universe forever expanding and collapsing, that’s the same thing. If there is nothing unchangeable, then there is no point to change anything.

Hmmm… And about the event/ending part, yeah, I guess Sartre was right. An event has to end, as it’s just a step in a process.

It seems that you misunderstood me here. I meant it is inadequate that you only said “some greek philosophers”, when the majority of all people believe this to be true.

I see…

Most people believed the earth was squared and they executed those who said the contrary…

But we are coming out of the inicial question, so i will leave it there

That is the funniest quote I have seen in a long time.
