Love is what one makes of it. To me love at this moment takes many forms. A bit of an idea shifter i’d call it. It’d probably include all of the above and more…
“Love” is a word, which englishmen stamped upon a certain spectrum of female and child drives. It is mostly a child-related drive, though, as far as I am concerned, for it always aims for something similar to the free-giving and attachment in the family. Most children are ever-loving, also.
On the lowest level, it is lust - the genetic attraction of one animal to the phenotype of another. On the middle level, it is affection: the sublimation of the former, i.e., both the elevating and canceling-out of lust. On this level it is still sensual, though, though no longer directly sexual. On the highest level, it is intellectual. Here even the sensual has been sublimated, i.e., elevated and thereby seemingly canceled out. What matters on this level is communication, which is indirectly sensual (touching each other not with hands but with words, for example). I don’t really have a word for it, but it is the awareness of each other’s awareness of each other. Mirroring each other and casting things between the two mirrors which are then infinitely reflected.
What kind of Love? Love between two people that are are attracted to each other as mates? Love for a friend? Love for family? Love for your progeny? Love for self? Love for your hobby or career? Love for your species? Love for the world? Love for whatever else people can love?
While all the above is love, they are as different as shoes in a closet.
Which one do you ask about?
Love has been argued to be the need for security, the feeling created by a balence of chemicals aimed at producing offspring. A basic need to not feel lonly. But no description of love does love justice. Its such a strong emotion that it has in the past given people superhuman strength in a time of need when a loved one is in danger, it can hurt us more than any weapon, and make us more happy than fulfilling our most extravigant of dreams. It can allow us to wait accross continents opf space and years of time and still remain as strong as the first day we established it. Love has not been pinned down by any psylogical test nor fits in with any simple description. Love is huge, and far beond our capability to summerise into a logical capacity
LOVE or LOVE. I would add more but I think I will wait until the next time 'Love" is recycled. Like TRUTH and BEAUTY it should come around again in a couple weeks.
The joke was, your on-line signature says, “My name a Borat, I like you, I like sex, it’s nice…” I was saying if you read that you’ll have my opinion on love, again, just a joke.
You don’t need to apologize, I took no offense. I understand how the subtleties of the English language can throw people off who have it as a second language sometimes.
When I was in college, I helped tutor the students not from America in all of the business subjects because they didn’t always understand the terms.
I think there is an important distintion between love and attraction/infatuation. I have no doubt that there is a strong biological force in determining attraction (pheromonal is particularily potent) as well as a psycho-social affect, but these seem to contribute to what I pereive as more of an infatuous attraction… not love. Love has always been more of a connection BETWEEN two people, not just a one sided attraction between one (or both) people.
The Pair-Bond is the only thing I can think of that brings happiness. A male and a female are driven by biology to stay together after reproducing so that the child will survive. Human male genital sexual function ‘specifications’* indicate we are prone to some promiscuity, and inevitably some social parteners were lost.
*see the book Sperm Wars: The Science of Sex by Robin Baker.
Males can tell signs of female puberty/fertility early on (subconcious or something, evolutionary psychology and sociobiology stuff), so I guess love can start young,…during adolescent years…It is advantageous for a young male to get aquainted and close because he gets first pick kinda…If a guy notices a female is attractive/fertile when she is in her twenties, he’ll be way back in line…for she would have had a partener by then in cave man times.
The nice looking gals get taken by the end of highschool. I saw it happen several times.
