What is science good for?

Humans can live simply without science. Science tries to make human life less hard but all it does is make human life harder.

We had the chemistry war (WW1)
We had the physics war (WW2)
The next war will be the biological war

With out science we would have no warning of impending storms, we would have no lemonade, we would not have peanutbutter, we would not have homes that do not leak and are at a comfortable temperature. We would not survive the loss of a limb. The list for good outweighs the list for bad by a landslide. I can go on and on about what science does for us. It has so many positives in our daily life that we cannot see them. The chair you sit on, the light bulb in your room, Your bed, your desk your books. All the above require/d science.

Just superficial needs and benefits.

For you perhaps. but most need to survive. Science makes that possible. Even if we get rid of present technology , go back to caves and huts science will be there to keep humans and their animals alive.

A spear is a form of technology, the production of a spear that didn’t break and threw accurately would be a process of trying new ideas again and again and again, weaning out the good designs. In a lot of ways, thats a basic form of science.

So, if you think being clubbed to death isn’t essential to avoid, you probably need ‘science’ to develop better weapons to defend yourself with, better stick-walls to hold back tigers, etc.

science and technology are essentially the only things that even allowed us to survive as a species.

That is total BS. Many species out there survive fine without science and technology.

 yes and without technology we would be their supper or their nesting ground for their eggs and such, parasites are such fun.

Science deals with the desire for people to control their physical existence.

If you want more carrots, then understandnig plant biology will help you get there.

Philosophy and science are both means to and end. The desired end is usually happiness, though sometimes the roads don’t actually take you there.

Science is the direct attempt to become successful in terms of the material, world where philosophy is the attempt to get there in terms of mentality.

What are they good for? I measure the “goodness” of everything by saying it depends on your desires.

We would probably still be in teh trees.

But what would it matter? you don’t like the idea of humans not being dominant?

There’s no reason to believe we would be less happy than we are now, even with all the death.

It seems that the bigger and more powerful the human race gets so too do our problems.

Lazy convenience, war and there is always the hope that someday it will help us live forever so we can become gods like those in our mythical fictional universe that we have created through that of religion.

Yet men end up making life more difficult and complex. Humanity is in a never ending cycle of materialism.

Humanity is a never ending cycle of bullshit.

Makes sense.

And yet I see that although you condemn science and technology you make full use of it.

I use it because society has left no other choices.

Oh bullshit.

worded alittle more properly, “Society has destroyed all other options”

I’m glad someone else sees it. Was beginning to feel alone on the subject.

She is not too far off. The community where people once came together is dying in a shrinking world and people no longer come together to freely speak their minds in public anymore for fear of political correctness and governmental retribution.

The internet in a way has symbolized the last refuge of private thoughts since for the most part it has become taboo or politically incorrect to freely express them anywhere else especially in public.

And in many ways it has.
