What are the highest successes or the highest means to you vs. the depths of failure?
I have read few years ago, many things about astrology, signs, the zodiacs, the chinese zodiacs, the celtic astrology, all these studies predicts through probablity, month and year and hour you were born, and guess works, and the medieval artacracy- the calculation of numbers through your first and last name, then there comes studying and observing laws and commandments of the bible and reality of science.
So I am finding out today about my fortune, which tells me I am an unpredictable person and will find success in buisness, politics, and finance, I will either reach into the highest peak of success or the depths of failure, all determines in the present or the beginning.
Tell me what is highest success means to and failure? To me rich, love by many, the most wise, the most powerful. Failure will be vice versa, poor, humilation, disrespected, weak.
Or maybe success determines how well you can you deceive the other person, like lawyers?
You are undoubtedly very influenced by the materialistic culture of your land…
Success may mean different things to different people. I myself find richness, social respectability and fame unconceivable. I detest rich people, I detest people who like to pretend they are respectable when they’re in fact despicable beings (any man who judges other men by the money they have, or by their social status is despicable to me), I detest famous blockheaded people, I could never be one of them…
Success means to be able to live with other men without resorting to their mediocrity, their short-sightedness and their ridiculous sense of importance. That is a mere interpretation of mine however.
the only thing that anybody should ever strive for, under any circumstances, is creating the most happiness possible. there is no other goal that means anything.
if you think the best way to create the most happiness possible is to spend all of your money on yourself and your family, you are either poor or have been brainwashed by the selfish culture of materialism and pride that is the foundation of capitalism.
Success is incredibly relative to each person. A Buddhist monk may think that death by lighting himself on fire is the greatest honor he could ever achieve.
I, on the otherhand, don’t understand how that is any fun or honorable.
It may be fairly said, however, that certain things are widely regarded by many people to be “things of honor or success”. For example, many people feel that achieving the greatest amount of happiness in life is the greatest success, etc.
I believe the highest success is when one is content. Not happy, but rather content which is like a zen type of happiness. This is why materialistic people never reach the highest success, because they always either want more, or get sick/bored of what they have. I also think that living a virtuous life also ammounts to happiness.
I think that is a good answer. It is like Aristotle’s answer, except that for him money helps you take care of your virtuous projects. But if i may religiously digress, or progress, the greatest success is further to be accounted a friend of God – which is also said to happen by being a good man.
To put it another way, the greatest thing we can recieve is affirmation/love, and the greatest affirmation must come from the Creator. But love is given freely, so as to what we can achieve, this must then be the love relationship; above all, meriting God’s love.
…Though I may be treading near formal heresies here.
The highest success is to be with your family in heaven, spending eterneity loving eachother and inviting new family members to the holy kingdom of God.
How very utilitarian. The problem, however, is that you scorn a selfish materialism, but often utilitarian actions involve your happiness and the happiness of some others, while isolating and causing pain to a minority. Don’t forget, therefore, that Utilitarianism can come across just as selfishly as the circumstances you describe.
Materialism is fine. If you have any sort of possesion that is not needed to survive you are a materialistic person. Riches and power do not make you bad it is how you control yourself. A person that has social respectablity or considers themselves such, may justly have earned it.
The wealthy employ the nonwealthy and as such bear burdens that the employees do not have. So if they get snooty from time to time its cool by me. Does not make them bad.
As far as the wealthy judging people by their monetary status that is the equivelent of an intelligent person pointing out that you may have less intelligence. Wealthy vs. poor =Smart vs. stupid. Same thing.
Any type of judgement on others is the equivelent of setting yourself above them for whatever reason.
Success can never be measured it is transient like time. The old saying, Here today, gone tomorrow can be applied to the concept of success. Also the bigger they are the harder they fall applies here too.
I just know that I am not the person on that bottom rung of humanity’s ladder and I know that the person/s ahead of me are going to fart some time or take a dump, if I can dodge that trickle down I may be successful.
And who knows, they may slip down past me then, it will be my turn to return the favor.
This is crude but you all should get the point.
P.S to O.G. I have heard the pages in old bibles make the best rolling papers, No offense to anyone , just a comment.
I think like 2 or 3… we messed up a bunch of times.
It ended up turning out like one of those small novelty baseball bats (I don’t know if they have them over there), we had to hold it with 2 hands most of the time for support.
I finished around 4am or something I had to go to work the next day at 6am. I fell asleep holding playing cards at work.
Asleep… sitting up holding cards. Man what a burnout…
