What is the meaning of existence?

i question the existence. However, I am NOT an atheist. God exists; God is inevitable. But, i do not know why we are here, in this universe that is shaped this particular way, in this one planet called earth, in this one life form.

When i daydream in my classes, i stare at people. i do not think for a while, then i realize,
what am i doing here? … why am i staring at those peach-colored moving things? … who am i?.. why am i thinking?..why am i in this room?..why are they existing?..what do i mean by existing?..

and then the teacher throws a chalk at me. and i snap back to reality, realizing that i must attend to daily schedule, burying my question into my subconsciousness.

Welcome to the world of philosophy, a path so treacherous, demanding, harsh, brutal, and rewarding that it is only meant for the select few.

haha thanks. XD

To love and to be loved.

there is no meaning that we know of, so just go about your life without caring about it, dont bother searching unless you find yourself having complex unflawable logical thoughts and you are becoming an all wise or knowing being you shouldnt bother asking yourself otherwise… or anyone else…

Nothing, including existence itself, has inherent meaning. The world-in-itself only has whatever meaning we choose to attach to it. In this regard, you are free (and condemned) to chose for yourself what the meaning of existence is.

So go out there now and do it.

Meaning is an emotion, which holds hands with a set of changing processes, and this is the feeling of “direction” within the conscious being.

Meaning is subjective.

This comment, for example, fits into my pervious statement.

Imagine a group of people, or just one special person, who loved you tenderly and helped you through your life. Isn’t that “meaning”?

… and this is the feeling of “direction” within the conscious being.

the feeling of direction is the result of us assuming we have days ahead of us and the control to manipulate what we do to get there.

This is a tired and tried question…painful to read…

Properly speaking there is an abundance of meaning to life - if anything - we have an over-kill of meaning and valuation to existence. We are the people dizzed with meaning, with purpose, with place, with potentiality and multiple perspective.

The trouble is with so much meaning around it takes a powerful and often shrew mind to dissolve the wheat from the chaff…that is…the suppoed wheat of meaning, from the suppoed chaff of meaning…a game which is constantly unfolding.

Meaning sans everything…

The mind looks out to the world as a field of meanings…in the same way a lazer reads and scans the measurements of a room.

Live to learn to live. All else follows.

Words of dan~

If the body immune-system was not self-aware, we’d be dead soon, for example.

Awareness trying to maintain awareness

And awareness of being aware

If we are basically awareness, riding on a suit of mechanical memes…
As soon as a life form is aware of its existance it is aware of it’s inevitable end, thus relegion.

Survival instincts are basically inborn awareness of what is good and bad for you

Even though they aren’t formatted into knowledge

As life goes on people keep learning and gaining more awareness

Awareness can exist in many degrees. At the lowest level, it is an autocracy capable of adaption

On a higher level, it is consciousness, capable of self-change, self-understanding, understanding of the outside world, etc

Information is aquired through life, and before birth, life is made of information, in a molecular form (DNA)

As we move on t’wards the “information age” more deeply, It’d be almost invisible to see that the “meaing” of “life” may have allot to do with information, and expotential information technologies are just a side-effect of the original mobilization of life on earth?
“Thought” is a format of “Awareness”, and emotions are natural reactions to awareness.

Most of the evils in the world happen because of ignorance and stupidity, which is probably a lack of awareness, understanding & information.

I suppose the growth of awareness and information is one of the main meanings of earthly life, and stress/competition are ways to stimulate & refine that information, even though it is a bit painful or mad.

Hope this helps, sure did me.

I am an atheist.
I beleive that the meaning of the universe for us is to replicate.
All your actions are derived from this, wether you want it or not.

However my meaning is to enjoy myself and understand the universe better. For me this is the best way to exist.
You are free to find your own meaning. Nothing is bad.

what is the meaning of poker? of movies? of stars? of …

is this a question worth asking? what is the meaning of…

Everything.

Fighting the mundaneness of it (existence) while being responsible to the affect of staying alive.

I once heard a lecture by Alan Watts where he quoted Anton Van Leeuwenhoek ( The father of the microscope) regarding this subject as; “The mystery of life is not a problem to be solved but a reality to be experienced.”
