I think the question was put 20 times here or 200 but I would like to put it again.
Can the meaning of life be religion or maybe we should have something different - family, money, interesting job? What for do religions exist?
Will they help or only make bigger and bigger mess in this messy world?
The botanist quote - What for do religions exist?
Will they help or only make bigger and bigger mess in this messy world?
Which part of this do you think will mess the world up? - Jesus said -
āLove God and your neighbour, this is the whole law,
Love one another, love your enemies,
bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you,
greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends,
Youāre my friends if you follow me, I donāt call you servants, I call you friendsā¦
Hungry and you fed me,
Thirsty and you gave me drink,
A stranger and you took me in,
Naked and you clothed me,
ill and you tended me,
In prison and you visited me.
When you did this to others,
you did it to meā
(Matt ch 25)
The meaning of life is different for every person, it is tailor made by the person in question. Your life is up to you, belive it or not.
But consider this: Could the meaning of life be Death? Isnāt death what gives our lives meaning? If we could not die then we would not be struggling to complete so many things before death arrives. What one does in life is what matters, but if life was an eternity then it would not matter.
the meaning of life can be death, yes. But the meaning of life can be life also. Because we cannot know what death holds until we experience it, it is irrelevant to living.
and yes, the meaning of life is different for every person. For some parts of the world, the meanign of life is survival or food every day, for others it is material possetions (which I think leads to nowhere in the long run) for others it is a myriad of things.
We all have different experiences in life, and we consequently have different things that we value and consider to be our purpose(s)
Mucius quote - My Aristotle says that the meaning of life is happinessā¦ seems pretty reasonable
Hmmā¦ CORKS by Mick
Living Christian lifestyles by going to church, being kind and nice,squeaky-clean, following all the rules etc, is good and it might even get people to the pearly gates.
But whether it gets them through the gates is another matter entirely, only God knows!
The big stumbling block for many, whether Christians or not, is that they love the world too much.
On the other hand there are people (a minority including me) who dislike the world and dislike being in it,and wonāt be the least unhappy to leave it.
Consider this - if the world is a bottle and weāre all corks in it, which of the two types of people are going to pop the furthest when its uncorked by our death, a world-lover or a world-hater?
Like I said, those who love the world are going to have a low velocity and barely reach the gates because their attraction for the world is dragging them back, whereas the world-haters are going to pop at high velocity clean through the gates making Peter duck!
Jesus said āThe man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal lifeā (John 12:25)
That does seem pretty reasonable. And moderation seems pretty reasonable too. For me, I donāt know about the rest of you all, life is about finding a happy mediumā¦ itās an optimization problem.
I like burritos too, in fact I ate one today. On another thread, you said that some $10 an hour jobs really suck, but other ones (like making burritos) are amazing. I actually thought about that a little bit. While personally, I wouldnāt wanna make burritos my career, but I do now realize the it would be a pretty kickass summer job. I think Iād like to make some burritosā¦ they would help me get closer to my happy medium.
