You say that if I believe in heaven then the belief that heaven exists should influence me to believe in heaven? Isn’t that a tautology?

I don’t know; I was just trying to figure out how the truth is believing in something beneficial by your meaning.
To me, heaven seems like something beneficial for everybody.
By your logic, I should believe in it because it is beneficial to me.
I do not believe in heaven, although I have everything to gain by it and nothing to lose by it.
Thus, I’m not going to be a very truthful person by that attitude.
Well, it would be beneficial if it existed. But you don’t think it does, so you don’t believe in it.

How can you tell what is true or not, either subjectively or objectively?
Is it agreement amongst the masses?
Is it a fact based on scientific theories?
Is it the conclusion to a reasonable argument?
Let the games begin.
A sharp mind, awareness and scientific knowledge lead one to the truth.
There is no collective truth - only the convenience of language to communicate experience. Is the sky blue to a baby before they know the words “sky” and “blue”? If not, what do they experience? Are words necessary for communication - or just convenient?
Truth is existence itself. Nothing we say is about truth; everything we do is truth affirming itself.

Conversely, ‘The Word’ (religious revelation) invariably leads people to the lie.
What a simplistic and foolish view

Bingo!

Note: I edited that post.

I like this quote but alot of people don’t get it right off:
“Though all the winds of doctrine were let loose to play upon the Earth, so truth be in the field. We do injuriously, by licensing and prohibiting, to misdoubt her strength. Let her and falsehood grapple; for whoever knew the truth to be put to the worse, than in a free and open encounter?” John Milton, Areopagitica
I don’t believe in truth. I believe in choice. I choose to struggle for truth. The important thing is not truth, or whether it exists, but, rather, the fight.
You people here are the stone upon which I hone my brain, and a much better job you do than most shit-hole web sites I’ve been on.
Most either dull my edge or let it rust.
