Hamilton sort of thought this should be done every twenty years.
I want representatives voted for at large instead of by district, that way the one million whatevers can have a representative in congress, instead of none because they don’t all live in the same place.
well there are a few changes i would like to make…
We the People of the United States and Canada, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice for all, insure domestic Tranquility for all, provide for the common defence of all,[1] promote the general Welfare OF ALL, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves but also to all, and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America and Canada…
ok now that we have that done, where oh where to begin anew…
I read this book once called “a matter of interpretation” or something like that by Justice Scalia. I think that anyone who claims they’re upholding the constitution, without telling us whether they are a textualist, an originalist, or an origininalist textualist or whatever is just trying to take credibilty from the document and transfer it to himself. The constitution is ripe for interpretation, and it’s not the president, but the Court which has the role of interpreting it. Ron Paul is a fanatic. It’s a shame someone more sensible couldn’t have had some of his ideas.
We should go back to what was originally concieved as just for a society ruled by property owners, and that is a tax on property. Productive property should be taxed and property above the level of necessity. It is because the rich now can evade taxes on property that the poor pay so much. And it is the poor by way of income taxes that give property a free ride. It increases their poverty while making property a bank of wealth.
No, ding dong. You know it will get worse before it gets better, so act to avoid it. Society is a form of relationship. So is a marriage. If the marriage isn’t serving every interest start over. If the society isn’t serving every interest start over. Everyone wants to amend the constitution. It is their way of denying that the constitution needs replacement. The constitution needs to be reformed, and the goal of our union needs to be affirmed. The situation demands the very best from each and every person. It is not the time for emotional distress. Societies fail in age, and that failure represents many moral choices badly made. I would have you accept the fact that no one gets closer to justice by dwelling in their grievance. The next society will fail tomorrows people like this one fails us. Accept that at every point in its lfe every society needs correction, and it needs to work, and if it cannot be corrected and it does not work you have to start over.
There are many things wrong with the constitution currently. I love how were supposed to be a democratic nation. Yet the constitution wasn’t brought in democratically the irony oh the irony in that. Also the fact that the constitution doesn’t have much to do with the american people now is quite funny. The constitution has more to do with your name then you personally…
Ammendment 13 is quite amusing the ability to take citizenship away from a lawyer or judge it’s just Grrrreat!
To bad the constitution can’t be heard in “court” that would just be funny as hell
We can do better. We hold our constitution in reverence. It is a mistake. People like JE Hoover ran right over the top of it and never gave it the least consideration. None of those people in power do. It is an impediment, but not insurmountable. So, ultimately it is no protection. In any event, we can have the government of our needs which we can know better than anyone who made the constitution. The more distant in time we get from the beginning of this country the more certain all become that it must change, and while each wants stability, ultimately stability becomes the enemy of peace, progress and liberty. We can do better. Do not be afraid.
My problem with the constitution: What are free laws? Ultimate freedom is lawlessness. What in the fuck is the constitution for then? To keep us oppressed while having us believe oppression is actually being prevented.
I’m not sure i follow… is this some sort of patriotic spiel? are you just telling my to stop moping?
i also do not like how you corner the market on the options of actions if a society fails. why must it start over. if it fails large enough it is rational that it wouldn’t start again.
so no, ding dong. i will point out my situation as an ant, laugh at myself, laugh at others, watch the hill crumble, and probably do a lot of screaming. nothing you say or do could sway this.
Well. Perhaps some societies are destined for failure. My people, and even I have pinned a lot of hopes and labor on making the hope for humanity this country once represented pay off. We have some good qualities. Democracy is a virtue, and liberty is impossible without democracy. But, to do the good we once intended for the world we must free ourselves; and fatalism won’t help. Pessimism won’t help. You choose to be an impediment when you believe nothing will help. You will be got over or around. It is time for a change, and has been time for a change. We are letting our respect for our founding fathers hold us in place, living with hopelessness, division, and unhappiness. We can do better.
