I’m pretty good at defining myself in most areas of life but I suck at finding my own music so do you guys have any good music ideas you want to share? I like the whole radio-hip hop thing in moderation but I want to download some other stuff off limewire and buy their cds’s if I like them so what should I get?
Hmmm, well this is difficult to answer. Music is a personal choice.
I think I understand your situation though.
A lot of people identify themselves by the kind of music they like, sticking to certain bands and kinds of music.
I’ve never been like this. I don’t like when people start asking me what kind of music I listen to, and bother me to tlel them which bands I like.
I am more of the type of person to like individual songs that seem to strike something in me.
I usually like energizing music. I like fast-paced hip hop (due to my style of bboying), drum n bass, and goa trance. Of course, I have to be in the right mood for each. I also like classical, jazz, some reggae (but mostly the more hip-hoppish kind, like Damian Marley), and a few songs here and there from other genres (from doo wop to modern pop rock).
I tend to appreciate music more for the sound than the lyrics. I am the type of person that can hear a song a hundred times and still fail to sing along.
What I listen to more than anything is a new age internet radio station, it provides nice background noise (along with my desk fountain) while I am trying to relax and focus on working.
So, um, how about type “Damian Marley” and “Halfway Tree” (an album) into limewire. Maybe you’ll dig that.
Maybe you’ll like jazz… you can look for some miles davis.
Probably my overall favorite hip hop song: Aesop Rock- No regrets
Here’s the internet radio website I usually go to: di.fm/
The thing with music… what happens is, if you don’t know what you’re looking for then you will automatically be fed crap/garbage/music that will infect your mind.
I would suggest going to pandora.com and finding one artist that you already know/like and it will bring up more artists that are similar in certain ways, enabling you to broaden your musical horizons.
I would also suggest listening to the radio, but depending on where in the world you live the “radio” (FM/AM) can be complete crap. Try XM or Satellite.
Or I would also suggest browsing the interweb. This is how I obtained my huge collection of music. I started using things like Morpheus and Napster and iMesh, and later on (after I found out how bad those are for your computer) I resorted to blogs (google this: the hype machine).
Right now I use torrents and torrent sites (ie demonoid) to obtain music, but I pretty much know what I want… just keep browsing and remember to keep an open mind.
And remember that country music and gangsta rap and beatles-pop-emo are complete bullshit backed up by the government to sedate your mind and keep you at bay while they turn out nation into an imperial one.
Over and out

PS
try radiohead
Wow, that pandora site is great. Do you know how I can get Limewire on my account on my computer though? My damned sister already has it and I don’t know how to transfer it on mine.
you need to listen to a lot of music to get an idea for what you like.
I love delta and country blues, and it took me years growing up in the culturless american landscape to hear this kind of music.
You need to listen to tons and tons of a variety of music, and don’t define yourself too quick to what you like and do not like, give all music a chance, ask all your friends to borrow some of their favorite cds, and just go for it, limewire is good, and also youtube.com if you like to see live music etc.
good luck,
this is my favorite stuff youtube.com/watch?v=FXbPya2kypI
For someone with your experience, it’d be too much of a pain in the ass to just transfer the program files to your computer.
Best bet is either going to limewire’s website and buying their product or downloading a lite version (one without spyware and adware) or a supped-up version off of a torrent website such as isohunt.com
In my opinion Limewire Pro is the way to go if you absolutely cannot find a certain mp3 that you are sure will be out there among the masses.
Alternatives include:
Azureus (torrent tracking), soulseek, etc.
Nine Inch Nails, if you’re asking.
lol
NiN is not a kind of music
they are the musical personifications of emptyness and hate
but i enjoyed [with_teeth]

I really liked that Damian Marley and Aesop Rock song. Does Aesop have any more really good songs? Some of his just aren’t good but if he has any as good as No Regrets please tell.
Unfortunately, No Regrets is the only song of his that I know of that reaches its quality… the rest just sort of sound random smoked-out outbursts huh? The lyrics of his songs seem to contain metaphor after metaphor, which might be appreciated by some (who listen very carefully to hip hop lyrics and get the “OH!” rush from hearing some concept they understand or relate to, but they don’t really have a steady flow to them like No Regrets does.
You might like “Daylight”, that’s the only other song by Aesop Rock I really like.
You downloaded the Tree of Life song? Download the entire “Halfway Tree” album. I think you’ll like it.
I always thought Aesop Rock had somewhat of an upbeat attitude in their songs compared to most other hip hop groups. This I like, b/c the generic guns and bitches theme gets old.
Some different groups with a similar attitude, from what I remember, are:
Brother Ali
Heiruspecs
Cunninlynguists
Lyrics Born (semi hip-hop)
Those are a few. They are all great lyricists and don’t sugarcoat anything with bells and whistles, like mainstream rap. I tend to try and listen to bands that are underground, so if you are lookin for somethin fresh give me a ring.
have you noticed that colonizers music (european) is usually on the downbeat, (like drum marches, whereas teh places being colonized are usually on the offbeat, kind of a reaction against the colonizers.
Something interesting to think about.
