I think that people on these forums are loosing track of the things that matter, to me it makes me think of a religious squabble between various belivers about which God is the true God when realy if they looked at it objectivly they would see that they all worship the same God. Wars are started over petty differences, when both sides want the same thing. I belive that this happens on this site far too much. So I ask you, with the hopes of a straight answer, what is it that matters the most to you in this world?
Step back from your arguments over the meanings of words, wether or not a theory is correct, is there a meaning of life or not. Stop thinking with your head and write what feels right for a change, what do you realy care about? Because its these feelings that should separate or unite us.
As trite as it sounds, the pursuit of truth is what’s most important to me. As well as I can know it, I want to know what it is that is most likely to be true about the world.
Rhinoboy, a lot of what try to convey here concerns what I feel. I try invest my inner feelings without trying to cause needless controversy. If I have, it wasn’t intentional. I’m not sure if everyone else has because I don’t know them. Some of what is said as responses here shock me. I’m don’t know if people are looking for the shock value or truly feel as they do. If they do have those negative feelings and are expressing them here, it is sad. I realize this represents a small fractional portion of the world, so maybe this venue is their outlet for their rants. My opinion is neither here nor yonder due to the fact I really know nothing about them at all. We all have diffferent perspectives of personality types.
What matters to me most is concerns the spiritual side and would hope others would access theirs too so they can realize there is more to life than birth, life and death.
I feel similarly to Liteninbolt. I care about us all realizing that what we say and do makes a difference. And through sometimes nitty-gritty experience here I become more attuned to where I succeed and where I fail at that endeavor.
myself matters, that is all… if i can achieve but one objective truth in this life then ill consider it a bonus.
when i say myself matters, that is to say i am not here to convince you of my beliefs or contradict yours, rather i am here to affirm my own.
any resulting argument is merely a sequence of events which are beyond my current level of knowledge to explain. whatever argument happens, happens inevitably, with me anyway.
Having happiness and laughter more often than sadness anger and tears in my life and those around me is all that truly matters to me. Everything else is just part of life.
I care about the effect of technology on nature and the human race in the future. VR and AI
I care about information collection agencies and things like the patriot act.
I dont know why i care since i wont be having kids and wont be around to see the destruction of the planet.
These two issues are almost never brought up in political debates, and I feel like I’m obsesssing about something that others are blind to, or just dont care.
The feeling that things are “right”. In my case right now that means more social relationships and getting a new job. Been changing old people’s diapers for 6 months now… feel like it’s time to move on. The problem is, in Finland there’s obligatory military service and I’m doing the non-military alternative so… I’m kind of stuck. Another 6 months to go .
I like philosophical pursuits but in the time I have studied such things I have come to the conclusion that nothing really changes in the sphere of our behavior and the only thing we can know for sure is from our own expiriences subjectively.
I think that the desire to know everything objectively in existence is a futile one and impossible.
You should check out pragmatist philosophy. Its basic attitude is that if your philosophy is not practically applicable to yourself and life, then it’s not even worth doing or discussing. And I don’t know that philosophy doesn’t change our behavior–it’s more of a reflection of what our behavior and tendencies already are and how they contrast with others.

I think we all do, thats why I thought this tread was necessarry, I think we should all take a step back to take stock of what matters from time to time
