the real religion that everyone in here ought to be a part of is quakerism
they have no rules besides treat your neighbor like yourself. they have no priests because everyone is equal, no special god-powers or eskimo slaves.
their churches are carpets and wood benches, no retarded golden chalices.
the best part: specific questions of what is moral or not are up for discussion and then interpretation. you go to church, stand up and say ‘i love abortion’ someone will probably argue with that, then everyone decides for themself.
so to be a quaker: believe that god is there, believe other people want to be treated like you would if you were them. go to a meeting and preferably listen to someone.
Zen Buddhism: If you find the Buddha, then kill the Buddha.
How much polishing does it take to make a clay tile into a mirror? It takes the same amount of meditating to make a man into a Buddha.
What is the Buddha? Ten pounds of flax.
King Ashoka did a fair bit of it for the Buddhists, but that was a long time ago.
Daoism (or Taoism…whatever). Not sure if it’s a religion, but I heard it started as a combination of psychology and philosophy but evolved into a religious faith. Taoists generally have an interest in promoting health and vitality.
Taoists are (usually) kind to other individuals.
That’s why it’s my favorite religion if I do have to choose. (large, but cheesy grin)
pantheism, hindu, buddhism, sufism, quakerism, zen buddhism, islam, etc…
the best ones are the ones who realize they have to fight over who is more penitent!
“There are the practices of yoga meditation, dervish dancing, psychotherapy, Zen Buddhism, Ignation, Salesian, and Hesychast methods of “prayer”, the use of consciousness-changing chemicals such as LSD and mescaline, psychodrama, group dynamics, sensory-awareness techniques, Quakerism, Gurdjieff exercises, relaxation therapies, the Alexander method, autogenic training, and self-hypnosis. The difficulty with every one of these disciplines is that the moment you are seriously involved, you find yourself boxed in some special in-group which defines itself, often with the most elegant subtlety, by the exclusion of an out-group. In this way, every religion or cult is self-defeating, and this is equally true of projects which define themselves as non-religions or universally inclusive religions, playing the game of ‘I am less exclusive than you’”. – page 118-119 The Book by Alan Watts
My favorite religion is Quakerism (not being sarcastic).
The most acute theologian I ever met was a Daoist.
I asked him why I ought join him and he said, “Daoists have developed techniques for multiple orgasms. Does your religion have multiple orgasms?”
Very hard to argue with that point.
Gotta give it up for voodoo. Not only have some really good movies (Serpent and the Rainbow) been made based on it, but any religion that places the stuff of horror movies as central pivots of spiritual life and reality is pretty kick ass.
I do not have a religion but I just took a test about what religion am I (vortical’s post belief-o-matic)and my results says 100% Hinduism 94% neo-pagan.
Hmm…IMO any religion, God or no God, as long as one follows the golden rule and improves one’s life and that of others, is good religion. But it would even be better if included in his/her religion is a belief in God. If I have to choose a religion, it would be Roman Catholicism. Why? I like rituals. I like incensce. I’m sure this religion as well as other religions have its imperfections. But I just like it.
As a non-practising Roman Catholic: my favourite religion is the religion of the self
If we all believed in ourselves the world would be a happier/more pleasant place to be…
My favourites are the Episscopalians and the Urinitarians!!!
And don’t forget Angel Heart. Lisa Bonet is smokin’ hot in that one!
I enjoy oriental/eastern-compound “religions”:
A combination of Taoism, Buddhism and Confutionism, and perhaps others.
I will tell you right now, that orthadox monisms are the devil!
Religions that are open to change and combination, are like animals that are actually willing to have sex with one who is not a “brother” or “sister”…
(in the faith.)
Yes, I am talking about Heterosis as a principal of the survival of the species. You should all expose Yourself to new ideas and be willing to change often.
The Buddhists are my favourite, they worked out that we are all part of the same carbon cycle, we are one like they say, and their beliefs are based on peaceful rather than oppressive values, they are the only ones who understand the relativity of life even if their beliefs in reincarnation and karma are nonsense.
As for Christianity, that religion’s been responsible for more wars, suffering and misery than anything else in history.
For different reasons.
Jews do not proselytize because they do not want others to infiltrate their selfish religion. God is for them, and them only (they are the chosen).
Buddhists do not proselytize because they know that God does not work from the outside. God works from the inside out. God radiates. Therefore recruiting people is a violation of respecting other’s beliefs. Buddhism is there, and you are welcome, but YOU have to make the choice to join. This is respecting the Buddha nature that lives in all of us.[/img]
What are you talking about? Buddhism prostytizes like ‘whaa’ as they say. Need I mentioned Kwan-Um in modern times? But in the past the examples are even more obvious, of Buddhism monks spreading their faith along the silk road. Especially by courting the royalty of an area, which would then go and demand that all their subjects convert (this was very common in SE Asia, but the Mongols did it as well).
My favorite religion…
Gee…let me think…
