Is philosophy really useless as people say, they become poor and lunatics and preach to people.
Or is philosophy really teaches you how to think, then, why would people want a master degree. Does it proves that he is a master? Or a person who has a black belt, means he is a master? It all depends on the realization of ones mind.
I really think people who pursue philosophy failing to grasp the essences of philosophy, therefore, in the end result they just become teachers.
I suppose they just pursue it for the money making wise, or so they believe.
Well, I see philosophy, generally speaking, as an unending cycle of interpretation and conceptualization. And I think its true masters are the ones who come to terms with that point and use philosophy more as a means of temporal expression than as a means to an end.
That being said, I’ve never found it to be a particularly inspiring means.
As far as a masters degree, no, you haven’t “mastered” anything. Learning is continual.
As far as “belts” in martial arts, no again. I have 2 black belts, (okay, technically one black belt, one black sash). All that signifies is understanding of the “basics” of the entirety of the system.
Joseph Campbell is a good example of a PhD. not being the end of education. He never stopped learning and searching.
That is the point that philosophy is intended to teach: You don’t know enough, so keep asking questions, and keep learning.
“The wiseman has naught but questions, while quick on the lips of a fool is always an answer.”
To prove to the world something? I am a seeker of learner.
When someone says, " I continue to learn and never end, and always asking questions". Does it not prove that this man states, in order to show this, I will prove to the world by showing them my Ph.d. Is he not a moron? Hasn’t he waste enough time already.
When there is a truth there is an end. It is just reckless that people see the truth and gives their opinions, then, decieve and persuade others to disbelieve it. If I am wrong, then there is no such thing as truth nor pure mathematics and science.
We are living in a world that is like a court, everyone is a lawyer, argueing for their own opinions.
Learning never ends, and even science has to take steps back and then forward again as the empiricism of certain “truths” becomes revealed to be less than the whole.
Learning is until ******, there is no destination, no end. What’s so hard to understand?
I would argue that a Ph.D. is not just about peer recognition and money, but also about training. Ph.D. training teaches you how to think and how to stand on your own. I think of it as a guild of sorts. Your B.S. lets you be a journyman, free to work for whomever and you’ll have a fair amount of independence, but a Ph.D. lets you work on your own. It is not a promise, but it has given you the foundation to do so. A Ph.D. is a beginning, not an end.
This is true, if you do not believe me then look at the result from a successful and his comments.
The rich man says how do we make a lot of money?
His father a PH.d. said get a job security, at least a master degree.
Her mother mother says, get a Ph.d.
The rich dad’s mentor said, learn how to be a buisnessman.
Therefore, school teaches you theory and more theories upto a Ph.d.
However, one thing that the school does not teach you is how to be rich but only teach you how to be an employee or a student, but never a master. Therefore, Mastrani, if you can prove to me that a Phd. is smarter then a b.a., and he is more successful then him, or , if you are a successful ma not merely a teacher nor an employee, I will submit any of your arguments.
If not, please keep quiet and don’t claim something that you don’t know.
If there is a true master, will not his followers or students also become masters and become recognized as the teacher?
Does not the goal of a student suppose to surpass the master?
I perhaps must think there must be a grand master who does not accept students nor teach to the public, but let people observe his works, emulating himself.
Ph.d may be a hopless end of the road for the person. Half of his life has been wasted. Such as, people who sit in mediation and believes enlightenment will come.
I’d like to address this point by quoting the Wizard of Oz’s talk with the Scarecrow at the end of the classic movie – but I remember it vagely. The point is, if you’ve learned philosophy, you only need a Testamonial.
These Masters’ titles are socially recognized accamations that one has been proven in their field. I think neither a black belt, nor a Master’s Degree sounds easy to get. The Philosophy student needs to not only take classes, but read from a list of works and be tested on them, and usually write a paper and defend it. So yes, I’d say the degree proves the person is a master of that subject – which is affirmed by the institution one has attended (which ultimately derives it’s power from the government through the accreditiation associations).
