I have heard philosophy is the aim of being famous through wise teachings. People seeks advice and learn.
Love is like a fine art which is love by many. Like those entertainers, movie, and music.
And power are those who which to acquire a piece of political power or wealth. like lawyers, judges, politics, and bid bussiness man.
This may be my last post or may not. but anyways why does one wants to study philosohpy ? To be famous right?
Or the aim to be scientist? to find a formula for gold, right?
I study philosophy (in the limited capacity that I do) to improve myself and hone my ideas on what seperates the gentleman from the small man.
Fame has nothing to do with it; indeed, philosophy is a rather terrible vehicle for obtaining fame.
Philosophy helps forge the self.

K: Well dan you heard wrong. If you want fame or power, umm,
here is not the place… go on American idol or something like that.
Philosophy is about understanding. Understanding wisdom, and
beauty, and ethics and society and ones role withing society
and learning what is in ones heart and mind. Fame and power and
wealth, are so overrated. Real power comes from knowledge.
Knowledge of who you are is the real wealth of philosophy.
And fame, fame is probably the dumbest thing to ever go after.
Ever see those dumb reality shows about has been celebrities who
try to re-find fame after years out of the spotlight. They
embarrassed themselves for what? to get a few minutes on TV.
It is shame that for some, fame is a drug. Always trying to score
just a few more minutes of fame, like a drug addict, just needs
that one last hit. Better to be addicted to drugs then to be addicted
to fame. If you are looking for wealth, power or fame,
leave philosophy. What you are looking for, it is not here.
Then why are some philosophers are famous and rememberable?
Why would we listen and read their books? And why would we read and listen to someone who is not successful, merely a regular wannabe philosopher’s opinion? A great philosopher will be famous but how?
Usually the most influential opinions and response are ones that acheived great fame in philosophy or success. Or the person is universal genius.
I wouldn’t be so sure of that. Most philosophers were either born into wealth and therefore lived lives of relative wealth. Even when they were ‘poor’, they still had enough money to get by on almost zero actual work. And I’d argue that their fame is pretty limited. Try starting a conversation with a stranger in a bar about Satre. It’s a pretty limited population sample that recognizes these figures.
That’s all puke!
God damned puke!
So mundane. (goes and watches more re-runs of Friends)
AHAHHAHA, TWO MEN ARE HAVING SEXXX!!!
I’m being MENTALLY STIMULATED!
(sarcasm…)
For the same “reason” that they slap their twinkey.
Most people call themself “philosopher” because they have some sort of path to something that causes strong emotion.
Maybe I’ve just seen too many people taking in, then shitting out that word “philosophy”, but it’s nice to see that you use this tool for self improvement.
If philosophy was a tool for self improvment, then what is in the self that is need to be improved?
If philosophy were to impressed chicks, then chicks is the caused of distraction of getting anything really done, or philosophy is a distraction of getting anything done, but to do what?
I have thought that there are numerous theories that has been produce, rationalist and empiricist, but which one has not yet been debated, which one have we uphold?
Philosophers these days are not philosophers. But a disguise and pretend that they are higher then someone else.
