when was the 'cavity' categorized?

It’s natural to have tooth decay. But did they always call it a cavity? Was there a point in time where the word was invented to agree with medical advances? Did they call it anything before it could be treated or recognized (tooth pain?)? Similarly to what they called the varying types of acne before there was a dermatologist field. :confused:
