Thanks so much for the great replies. I’m adding a majority of these to my list of books to read. This has been a great help.

Just wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude, since everyone took the time to share their thoughts.

Also - happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it.

The Doorman

If you look at the most influential written works then religious holy books definitely top the list. These have shaped people’s lives for generations and are revered by a large number.

It’s hard to pin down just ten so I will cheat a little, these are also just a few of many:

The Interpretation of Dreams - Sigmund Freud

Propaganda - Edward Bernays

Politics and Vision - Sheldon Wolin

The Trial + The Castle - Franz Kafka

The works of Fyodor Dostoevsky

Gargantua and Pantagruel - Rabelais

Renard the Fox - French Medieval Beast Epic

History of Political Philosophy - Ed. Leo Strauss, Joseph Cropsey

Many works of Leo Strauss + Laurence Lampert

Popular Culture in Early Modern Europe - Peter Burke

Performance and Literature in the Commedia Dell’Arte - Robert Henke

Though they are not books, my philosophy and imagination (which are intricately connected for me) were influenced by paintings, especially the artwork of Goya, Heironymus Bosch, and Pieter Bruegel the Elder…

Mainly there were not books, but there was always the life. The life was most influential for my philosophy.

If you want to know at the least one book, then I say it was a good dictionary.
