I cant describe the feeling I get when I come back after a long layoff to remember the old rivalries. It is like reminscing upon a certain time in your life that you felt was so deeply a part of your very being. How many more times will we remember such instances in our lives?
Perhaps 3 times, perhaps less. And then they are forever lost into the spiral abyss of consciousness.
Got to keep on rising like a spiral staircase. Instead of going back down like a slide. That is the important thing. I will have a beer to savour your old hatred and contemplate a rekindling of the guard.
Each and every poster, because they all add to the ILP pot… I like knowing people’s views and stances on things without taking it personally, whether we agree or not
From whom I’ve learned most on ILP; James S Saint, Farsight. I kind of miss Anthem in the discussions on the Science forum. Ed3. And without without-music I would still be talking into a vortex.
No, its because your posts barely make sense, your grammar is poor and it’s clear that none of you are big fans of logic. By the way, it’s a little hypocritical for a mod to say someone is “not smart enough”, then warn others if they do similar. I think I also remember you calling someone a “dick” in a recent thread? Don’t abuse the power, eh?
There are no trolls on philosophy forums… only Gadflys. Many Atheneans could make the case that Socratese and Diogenese were both ‘trolls’ and could put forward really good reasons why for it.
I feel bad honestly about someone I can never recall ever reading a post of disliking me though. Not like, remorseful of anything… I am a great person and refuse to change my ways, but bad in a sense somewhere in Portugal there is a Sad and I somehow effected it. But that whole country sucks anyway, so whatever.
Someone said he-she is science oriented. Might post something on Kuhn or Polyani then to throw it a bone.
I think JohnJones was probably a genius, chased out by jerks and quacks. No doubt, some of his stuff seemed like nonsense. But that’s to be expected when we’re talking about a possible genius. You can’t shoot for a star without sometimes looking like you’re aiming at nothing.
Slowjohn, or whatever his name is, is great to read. Don’t see much of his stuff though.
FilmSnob has amazing potential.
Oh, the artist formerly known as MathIsACircle is someone I think is interesting and clever. Although, I can’t respect how fast he can change his view for no apparent reason except bad ones, and his silence about it when asked. And whenever you read him, you see someone who’d rather be playing piano.
statiktech posts at ILP.
Oh, Moreno was unusual—until FilmSnob semi-unmasked him. Regardless, he reads carefully and perceptively and offers good insights.
Faust is a grumpy old man, and whenever I read him I’m reminded about how being grumpy and set in your ways doesn’t mix with philosophy. It seems to make you think you already know everything, and can just tell a story about when you were young and how something is not made as it used to be.
iambiguous is the most rigidly dogmatic I’ve seen. I can’t tell if he has tunnel vision, or just trouble turning his neck.
I’m English, born and raised. And white (two caucasian parents). But I’ll take it anyway, as I’ve lived in Asia for a good number of years now and I do kind of like it here.
There is something in that labelling effort that renders profound truth to me when I see it.
Not because it is necessarily is true, but because of the fact that I currently would not have the perceptive qualities/motivation to label other members who post here as concisely as this list you have provided us.
Does this say anything truly profound about the nature and flux of time and provisional resources? Perhaps it does, perhaps not, but it is really sexy nonetheless.
I have to say, I liked JohnJones’ thinking. As a moderator I hated his posting style, but he had (has) some genuinely interesting and original thoughts buried in there. Same goes for Satyr - he’s very acute and can skewer an argument with a couple of words… he’s just unwilling/unable to contain his contempt for everybody who disagrees with him. They’re neither of them current posters, though.
I can’t think of any standout favourites. Or I can think of too many.
You’re right, but don’t expect any of the mods to acknowledge it. It is amusing how every time there’s a thread on conspiracy theories (or at least on what most people mean when they say ‘conspiracy theories’), it ends up getting locked, yet when even greater aggression is exhibited on other threads on different topics, they are left open.
Is it possible that there are certain topics that the mods have collectively agreed to censor? Or is it just because none of them are smart enough to actually ‘get’ what is actually being said?
It seems to be a subject that people feel very strongly about and have difficulty discussing calmly. On the latest thread, I was unsure whether to give you a warning or lock the thread - because everyone was getting tetchy, I just locked the whole thing. I’ve locked plenty of non-CT threads too. But more usually, it’s one person going off on one and I give a warning to them to allow the rest of the thread to carry on.
Damn, rumbled. It’s not just a conspiracy - it’s a conspiracy by the sheeple!
SIATD: again… like Polly… you do not know anything about me, let alone my stance on CTs, so I object to your sweeping statement/your own CT on how us mods handle those threads.
I think every single member here adds to the mix… even the slightly crazy ones bit there are members who don’t frequent the boards anymore whom I miss
