But the average church-goer or paster does believe in what they preach, at least to a large extent - to the extent that we can say such beliefs have any real meaning at all. But science is also used to con - informercials, falsely advertised products that claim to do something they do not, covering up harmful side effects of products of science such as medicines or “natural remedies” such as colloidal silver, using limited and misleading conclusions to push an agenda under the guise of science, such as global warming (regardless of whether global warming is real, the “science” is used on both sides for deceptive purposes, i.e. to con). These people use science (admittedly superficially in many cases) to con people.
It seems that both science and religion can use their views and ideas to con people, but that this is not the standard or norm in either science or religion. But if I had to guess, I would say that science cons more people than religion, simply because the immense number of misrepresented products, ‘cures’ and theories in science that are deliberately mislabeled and presented deceptively in order to gain some advantage from their acceptance probably exceeds the number of televangelists out there. But I could be wrong.
