I can’t stand sitting in the house twiddling my thumbs and love to be outdoors doing things. I played goalball, football (soccer) and field hockey at boarding school, but have not been able to persue these since leaving, as, in all cases, the games were adapted for blind players and teams. I also did a lot of track running, and swimming. One of the reasons I like my current job, despite the bad pay and awful hours, is that it mostly involves running around outdoors, on the basketball court, pushing around elderly folk in wheelchairs. At least it keeps me active. I think I would go stir crazy without some outlet like that. I’ve never been one to suffer from depression very much, touch wood, but those times that I have, have always been the result of enforced inactivity.
Maia, what is it that is enforcing your inactivity? Maybe you just need to be more creative and resourceful in finding activities around the house and embrace those things. So what can you imagine yourself doing indoors to give you a new lease on life?
Not sure really. The trouble with indoor activities is that they are mostly sedentary. Reading, writing, all well and good. Listening to music and so on. My inactivity isn’t so much enforced as being a by-product of the hours that I work.
What’s a jump rope? I do my share of housecleaning of course, perhaps more than my share, since I’m quite obsessive about things like that. Yoga seems all too passive though I’m afraid.
Ah, a jump rope? Well, it’s a long rope but not that long. It’s held in both hands on either side of the body and behind the body. And then one proceeds to hurdle it forward and then one jumps as the rope slides under one’s feet and then this continues.
oh god, that’s a very poor choice of words. I don’t think you could imagine much from that. I hope someone else comes along and describes it too you.at least as far as my body goes
Anyway, as for yoga - Passive?! There is nothing passive about yoga, at least as far as my body goes. It’s quite stimulating to the body and it does firm it. The movements are not that easy to begin with though after a while the different positions do get better and it’s fun to stretch one’s body beyond where we think it can go. It also gives one a sense of achievement. It is also mentally stimulating.
