Why are the Protestants and Catholics so pissed?

At one another?

Remember that dude Michael Collins?

What was he so frikkin mad about?

I know that protestants and catholics believe some different things and all, but like, what are those things, and why on earth would they get so pissed at each other just for having different beliefs? I mean, is that even the reason that they’re pissed?

Someone explain this one to me.

I think historically speaking they have a grudge against the bishop of Rome for claiming superiority on matters of faith and moral. But of course the Pope with that kind of monopoly unwittingly grew in political power and wealth, which corrupts individuals in the process.

Now the German princes felt threathened by the earthly power of the Pope so they used Luther’s sudden popularity as a justification of rebellion. The English king just felt less manly without any male heir so he also brought up his own church to justify divorce. The Dutch followed.

So religion was used and misused for political and economical gains.

Doctrinally speaking their are quite a number of disagreements. Sacraments for example, purgatory, iconography, justification, faith alone theory and most doctrines after the council of Trent are some of the disagreements.

Hope I helped.
